When someone is announced as "UFC ***weight champion of the world", that doesn't make any sense, right?
UFC is just organization, but the sport is MMA, so it would have to be just "UFC ***weight champion" who could be unofficialy called "MMA ***weight champion of the world".
I just had to share with you my opinion on this.
It's been bothering me for years

Well, they're right.

It is an UFC champion, but a worldwide one, cause there are fighters from a lot of nations.

Well for the most part UFC has all the best fighters so it's the world title. Does boxing not bother the shit out of you? WBC WBA IBO IBF world champions?

It does bother me and that's why i'm going on boxing forum right now to create another thread like this one :)

Multiple organizations can have world titles, so that's why it needs to be specified. Just look at boxing.

That's in every sport. You're labelled the best in the world. Obviously not everyone in the world is in that said sport. But when you're the best organization in the world at your specific sport, then it's the just that. The best in the world.

On another topic the NBA champions were known as "world champions" when there were basically no non-US players, what's up with that?

It's the same with boxing and pro wrestling I think.

MMA has no world champions, there's an organization bigger than the others where they have their title, but it's not a world title, as you have to sign with the ufc to fight for it.

Don't expect to sway sherdog people away from the idea that mma has no world championships though, the ufc is the biggest with the best, hence it is a world championship.

nothing new in the combat sports' world. ;)

closer to pro wrestling than boxing. Boxing, not only CAN you fight outside of your promotion, you have to to keep your belt. Mandatory challengers are rarely part of your own stable.

Structurally, the UFC is the same as Top Rank or Golden Boy, there are just laws in place to stop those promotions from creating their own title belt and forcing people to sign with them to fight for it. It's a big reason why Don King was so controversial, to fight his champions, you had to sign with don king promotions.

Well, as a fellow white belt I believe you are an idiot. Allow me to explain
The UFC champion of the world is in fact, the strongest MMA champion in the world. It is a promotion, therefore, it will be announced as "The UFC heavyweight champion of the world" They don't need to say MMA because it is assumed people know wtf MMA is and if they don't, they still know the UFC so it works out better to just say UFC champ. There are many promotions with
" ____ champion of the world" but it really holds no power when there is the giant elephant in the room, the UFC. It's like saying you were an EVO winner from street fighter 5, but instead of saying that prestigious sounding title, you say "Video game champion". What sounds better to you: EVO 2015 Street Fighter V world champion or Video game champion. You don't even need to know wtf i'm talking about when it comes to my video game analogy, but it sounds prestigious af to be an EVO 2015 world champion vs a video game champ. Video game champ sounds like some cheap dollar store chinese ZUFFA takeover scheme. That is my take on why you are dumb. As a fellow white belt, I know I am flawed so please shame me so I can know my place :(
All in all, you're dumb
