UFC 257: McGregor vs. Poirier 2

Seeing posts like this make me regret having anything on Rountree though. Talking about depression, weight gain, and inconsistent training make it hard to have confidence in the guy. If he mentally shows up this should be a cake walk for him. I'm curious to see him weigh in, hopefully he has gotten his conditioning in check.

thats what i mean though. there are older posts of him talking about not wanting to fight and mentally just not in the game. thats why the -334 odds on him are weird to me. this guy seems like a nice chill guy that shouldn't be in the fight game imo.

Finally watching the press conference, can't say I'm surprised at Dustin's demeanor. Kinda reminds me of the Cowboy press conference, seeming more interested in getting the fight than winning it. I am curious who is paying Dustin more to show up Dana and the ufc or Conor's charitable team. Here is a quote from another interview.

Poirier said: “I don’t want to seem like we are up here giving each other back massages but I just wanted to clear the air. Conor’s team, McGregor Sports Entertainment did reach out to my foundation and they are starting the donation to the good fight foundation and we have huge plans for that.

“So Conor, man to man, you are going to help a lot of people with that.”

This just seems like the easiest fight Rountree could get. If it weren't for the mental question marks he might be worth -400 to -500 here. This line might still be a gift influenced by Cutelaba steamrolling Khalil in his last fight. I still think his current line is worth it even with the concerns. Marcin is just that bad, bad offense, bad defense, bad chin. Maybe the under is safer, 11 of Marcin's total 18 fights have ended in R1. He has never seen a second round in the UFC and has been clean KOed in all 3 of his ufc losses.

Think marina has a shot here. Odds are pretty wide. Bettors assuming she gets taken down and controlled 2 out of 3 rounds

leaning pena and eye. Would like a bit better odds though
People are overlooking Marina for sure, I don't think she wins, but it's not a bad looking "value" bet. I also have EYE over JoJo, who got mauled by Maia and won a razor thin decision over KGB (i thought she lost). Also, I'm hoping EYE comes back refreshed after GALL bladder removal, which may have been a cause for flat performances. I also have money on Pena over Sara (even), I just think she's better with a little more left in the tank. Not sure why late money is coming in on McMann, sucker money hopefully.

I am getting the feeling that Brad Tavares vs shoeface will be a classic grappler vs striker matchup. Brad Tavares likes to kicks a lot which gives shoeface the opportunity to enter in for a clinch and then a takedown. Also, Tavares is coming off an ACL injury

I know there's a lot of hype around Michael Chandler right now being a former Bellator champion and making his debut in the UFC but when you dive into the opponents Hooker has beat, Gilbert Burns, Al Iaquinta, Paul Felder. Chandler hasn't faced competition anywhere near this tough, he got TKO'd 2 years ago against Patricio Freire. Hooker, a guy that is an incredible kickboxer with solid takedown defense and has those vicious defensive knees when fighters go for takedowns on him. I just think Hooker's on a whole different level and he's going to outclass Chandler. Is there something I'm missing about Chandler that is keeping the odds pretty close?

The whole asterisk around their first fight is mental warfare, it would be dumb of him to engage in anything again. If he were to lose he'd have this over his head again, he just wants to avoid it entirely and fight.

I think the opposite. Dustin is very motivated to fight and win. I don't think he is star struck by Conor at all. Dustin is just a down to earth person and doesn't need to yell or make a scene. He has put in the work and when its time to fight I think he will show up.

Just thinking out loud, is McGregor by decision a very unrealistic outcome? If it goes past three rounds, i could definitely see it happen, Poirier slows down quite a bit, but not as dramatic as Conor. McG mentioned he was looking for octagon-time, maybe he will fight more paced.

+700 most places

I like it, gotta think that Porier has improved a lot since the first fight, and at 155, surely his chin should hold up better, given that Conor ITD and by KO are -250 and -200 respectively, that may be a good way to find some value

Betsafe has like 20 special props up, like Poirier by rnc, McGregor by high kick, most takedowns, gloves touch etc.

I'm surprised some of the money is moving in weird directions. I'm sitting back and grabbing Zhumagulov at + money, not sure why albazi gona go off as favorite. I think hooker pretty much outclasses chandler, especially in a 3 rounder. Azaitar should get a KO and I'm surprised he's not at least -200 yet. Jessica eye should be -150. But yea, zhalgas, hooked, and eye getting them all in even range I think all should be rightful favorites -150 and up.

If you have ever heard him in an extended interview you would know none of that is anything new.

I would not read too much into into those posts, he got a new contract less than a month after making that post.

Agreed. I think it's a pretty easy fight for Hooker. Chandler's washed up. It may have been different 5+ years ago, but not now. Hooker's better everywhere.

Poirier seems off this week. First, he was quite timid during the press conference. Just now he looked quite rough on the scales, not a lot of energy.

Khalil Rountree vs. Marcin Prachnio is an interesting one.

The odds favour Khalil to get a 1st round KO. However, it should be clear to anyone who has followed Rountree that he is absolutely terrified of fighting (not passing judgment, just a factual statement). Being violently brutalised by Cutelaba is likely to increase his anxiety. Consequently, if allowed, I would expect Khalil to be very happy to replicate his performance against Eryk Anders–winning the fight with ease, but avoiding the risks involved in hunting a finish.

The question is if Prachnio will allow that fight. Against Sam Alvey his mindset was kill or be killed (and killed he was). But even Alvey was willing to bite down and take one or two to find a finish, something I would not expect from Khalil. Against Ankalaev and Rodriguez, Prachnio looked way less confident, and was hunted down rather than bringing the fight to them. Considering Rountrees "flakiness", overwhelming him with aggression early would probably be a good game plan. But my bet is that being knocked out in three straight will make Prachnio a bit cautious.

Not being sure about Prachnio's cardio I was tempted to play the o1.5 at +150. But if the fight goes anything like I expect it to, it will be slow paced enough where he should be able to last three rounds. Hence, my bet is Khalil by Dec @+650 (!).

Edit: Also, that Prachnio is favoured to win a decision (+600, but still) is absurd to me. If it goes to a decision, I would expect Khalil to win at least four out of five times...

Nasrat doesn't weigh in, fight with Arman is off

Arman will fight Fervola if they can agree terms as Arman also missed weight by 3lbs

Another reason why I don't even bet anymore until the weigh ins now. There are so many changes on the cards now.

I hate to say it, but I think this card is pretty weak. I know they are banking on the McGregor hype for it, but it's not a deep card.
