Would you like this and would the UFC do it? Nate Diaz v Robbie Lawler welterweight title fight for the main event, Frankie Edgar v Conor McGregor featherweight title fight and co-main, Miesha Tate v Amanda Nunes women's bantamweight title fight, Tim Kennedy v Anderson Silva, Julianna Pena v Holly Holm.

This main card gets the same cross-section of fans that 196 just set records with. Nate is huge with the media right now. Conor is still huge. Frankie brings a lot of fans with him. The same goes for Robbie bringing strikeforce and old school fans. We get the second biggest name in women's MMA (Tate) against a relative unknown to the mainstream but who is ultra aggressive both during the fight and the build up. We get the big name of Anderson Silva against an american hero in Kennedy. We also get Holm back in against a TUF winner of a highly rated season. I would promote all 5 fights as can't miss. Do an announcement press conference with all 10 on the dais. Do an LA and NYC presser with all 10. Then do a huge fight week making all of the fighters available to all major media outlets. Promote it as the greatest main card in combat sports history because it would be. 3 titles, all action fights.

Yes Robbie should fight the number 5 ranked lightweight. That makes perfect sense.

I will pay for that one.

I think it's a bad idea. Nate might have a decent shot, but he's not a welterweight. Watch what happened when he fought Rory. Nate should fight in his own division imo. A rematch with Cowboy or something.

Dana only makes that fight out of pure spite. What a ridiculous matchup.

if robbie has half a brain he will just use his wrestling to rag roll diaz around. Even the stand up tends to favor him. Dana just wants to see nate get fucked up.

He was getting his ass beat by mcgregor. I have a hard time believing he beats Lawler.

Robbie would butcher his scar tissued face to a dr stoppage

It makes sense for Nate, Lawler and the UFC. big pay day for everyone. Whether or not you think this is a good matchup is irrelevant.

I here you but what makes money makes sense and Robbie would make a ton of money off of this. Nate just won the biggest welterweight fight of all time. If you think this fight would be noncompetitive I have to disagree. Robbie comes out to stand and bang, the Diaz style has already shown it can cause trouble for Lawler. The other thing is Robbie won't take this fight to the ground to try and pound Diaz out because Nate is really dangerous off his back. Great matchup for both fighters and the fans.

yeah, but to be fair, that lw just tooled a featherweight fighter, when they both weighed 168 pounds so there's that.

its a good style match-up for Nate. Robbie will stand and trade with him, and he is not a big leg kicker. Nate struggles with guys who leg kick him to death and take him down a lot.

I know what happened against Rory and Stun Gun but Robbie isn't like them. Nate has also improved a lot since then. He keeps distance better (see the Michael Johnson fight). The fight against Robbie will be competitive after that Nate will have to improve his takedown defense to remain champ, if he wins.

Nate came in on 11 days notice and explained the first round. He knew he would start slow, never looked to be in trouble at all in the 1st and then turned it one and crushed Conor.

Styles make fights, Diaz can win this one. He could also have a year taken off his life.

I actually don't think it'd be impossible for Nate to win that fight, just given Robbie has had so many battles. But I mainly don't want to see it because if he wins, we could see some lopsided fights go down. Like against Rory, or Hendricks. Thompson might be an interesting fight.

Either way, I'd rather see Nate fight at his own weight class. But if others want to see him at 170 it's cool, I just think it's a bit of misstep business wise. If they want to throw him to the wolves at least do it in his division.

Ummm... I don't know, man. I have no opinion at all.
