For all those interested:

Dos Santos and Jordan require clearance from an ear, nose and throat doctor for a potential nasal fracture prior to his return. The report said that Velasquez is suspended until April 18 for a possible broken jaw but could be cleared early.

Possible broken jaw and potential nasal fracture? How hard is it to actually diagnose that?

A broken jaw sounds like something a fighter would be immediately aware of

I'm not going to believe any medical diagnosis these doctors put out after seeing them refuse to stop any fights at 166. They have no idea what they're talking about

Is it really the cageside doctors who hand out the medical suspensions?

Yeah, Cain took some shots too. I only got to see the last 2 fights.

Cain's chin is so glass...

It's the doctors backstage I believe who hand out the suspensions. But all the doctors are hired by the same body so it's not hard to assume the backstage doctors are equally as inept as the guys who were cageside

Yes and jds has a pillow face thats why cains fist sank in it.

If Velasquez does indeed have a broken jaw issue it has to be because of the first punch from JDS. That was a big shot.

Why do you think Cain resorted to hugging after he tried going toe-to-toe in the opening round? Lol cain's camp had the perfect strategy= Cain wins .

Cause Cain didn't drop JDS in the 3rd or anything

All these are basically done on site in the arena, unless the guy gets taken immediately to hospital. That's why you see things like requiring an x-ray, MRI, or CT: they don't/can't do them for the initial medical exam. They do a physical exam, see if anything hurts, is cut, or shows abnormal swelling or doesn't have full range of motion, and base the suspension on worst case unless it's ruled out by further tests.

Cain's nose was bleeding fairly badly by the end of the fight, but he didn't exactly look like Vera or Le after Thiago and Wanderlei flattened their faces. And a broken jaw won't always be this obvious:

Suspected broken jaw for Cain ?
