Just realized that every replacement fighter at UFC 155 was successful. Sometimes taking a short notice fight can be worth it. Max Holloway replaced Cody McKenzie, beat Leonard Garcia Todd Duffee replaced Matt Mitrione, beat Phil De Fries Derek Brunson replaced Karlos Vernola, beat Chris Leben Jim Miller replaced Gray Maynard, beat Joe Lauzon Costa Philippou replaced Chris Weidman, beat Tim Boetsch
http://www.sherdog.net/forums/f2/taking-fight-short-notice-accepting-lose-2337613/ You mean to tell me this guy is a moron? Shocking.
this provides some evidence of just how strategy based the ufc has become. both guys are at a disadvantage in this scenario, however, the guy who has been preparing for a specific opponent for a longer period of time lost more often.
Jon Jones was also a replacement when he took the belt from Rua. Its a gamble fighters take depending on the caliber of opponent. Im pretty sure if they offered Jones Griffin instead of Sonnen he might have took the fight.
how is chael a bigger threat than griffen? except that he can talk circles around jones and make him look really bad - which is better than watching the fight itself, i would guess.
Except Brunson, every replacement was favoured to win. That's a very important point you need to keep in mind.
Chael's wrestling makes him dangerous against anyone (with the possible exception of Jon Jones). Forrest is a good fighter, works hard but Jones would rape him.
and u can even add that cain was kind of a replacement for overeem since he was the no.1 contender and didnt fought jds because of the athletic comission. REPLACEMENTS FTW!!!
