It looks like the tiki-taka, possession game is slowly fading. Barcelona and now Bayern haven't won in a bit. The Spain NT isn't as dominant.

Looks like the defend-and-counter-fast-as-lightning style is starting to win out. All 3 teams remaining have that general style. They're certainly more defensive, direct and fast and physical, as opposed to technical and patient.

I don't like it.

I don't like it.

I don't think that style is necessarily taking over, the passing possesion games still works wonders, its just that teams have found a reliable method to play against it.

Spain, Barca, and now Bayern have had some spankings from teams prepared to sit back and wait till all of the passing teams players are high up and catche them on the break.


It can still work fine but, and PEP is the worst for this, it can completely fall apart if you decide to choose who you play in defence based on passing ability and being able to bring the ball out from defence instead of actual defensive ability. That catches you out when teams break with speed.

The other big problem is when you play without a focal point up front and have no ability to penetrate. Especially when certain teams have played with 3 midfielders up front at times and other teams defence just sit in front of them.

Bayern have no plan B, and that is shocking ineptitude IMO. with the likes of Robben, Ribery, Gotze etc that team should easily be able to adapt to an attacking style.

Tika-Taka is fine, as long as you are not over reliant on it.
