Uber is gonna start building mini heli-pads in cities and start UberAIR Taxi service. Seem liks such a smart idea and wonder how come no one else has done it before.

Over the last couple of days at the Uber Elevate summit in Los Angeles, Uber has unveiled a number of partners and design concepts for uberAIR, the company’s planned aerial ride-hailing network. Its goal is to start testing these flights in 2020 in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Frisco, Texas, areas as well as Los Angeles. Uber is aiming for a 2023 commercial deployment.

O finally I cant begin to tell you how many times I have tried to flag down a helicopter but had no luck......

Are they gonna be piloted by the same tweekers that give me a ride to work?

How much would this cost? Any guesses?

Just for a regular everyday 5-7 mile trip to work or so.

I imagine when you land, it makes you look cooler to bystanders if you're seen eating redvines or a bag of doritos as the hatch comes up

When Uber comes out with Uber Teleportation device, that will be Uber cool.

Dont they do this a lot in Brazil like Sao Paolo.

let's roll the dice again, now at 5,000 feet above ground level as well.

Helicopters is one of the most unsafe commercial transport. The liability issue would be too much to deal with. Imagine drunken customers causing a scene, a bird caughy by the blade/rotor, weather conditions, etc...

What’s funny is they say DFW and Frisco. Frisco is a suburb of DFW so I don’t see why it’s a place they named.

The passenger cost per mile, Allison said, needs to be competitive with the variable cost of car ownership. Car ownership, on a per mile basis, costs between $0.464 to $0.608, according to AAA.

However, uberAIR will not be cheaper on a cost per passenger mile at launch. Initially, uberAIR will cost $5.73 per passenger mile. In the near-term, Uber says it will get the cost down to $1.86 per passenger mile before ideally getting to $0.44 per passenger mile. At that point, it would actually be cheaper to use uberAIR.

This whole thing would be a nightmare for FAA in cities like LA and NY. I dont see things going well, especially if it starts "taking off"

See what I did there.

lol! I use uber but man .. .sometimes .... the drivers! I had this one driver try to sell me a stake in his company that imported a "super nutrient" from India, that cured diabetes and even some cancers. I was just about drunk enough to buy in.
