Like the title says, I am just trying to figure out all the different types of guards. Not so much because i want to find one that no one has used or a hidden type, but because im plain curious.

The list can contain multiple types of one guard like DLR & Reverse DLR or Half & Deep Half so include those too please.

I've searched the topic in the search bar (two search attempts to be exact ha) so if this has been done just post that link.

I know most of the obvious ones such as:

Closed Guard
Cross Guard
X Guard
Spider Guard
Half Guard
Deep Half Guard
Rubber Guard
De La Riva Guard
Reverse De La Riva Guard
Inverted Guard
93 Guard
Butterfly Guard

Please add others .. thanks!!
**EDIT** - try not to repeat please and if there is a person who uses it/'created' it say them too

I realize most of the guards are all variations of those main 3 but im looking for the names of the
variations? But your definitely right.. just play along

Butterfly Guard, Open Guard, Closed Guard and Half Guard are all encompassing; everything else are variations of these main guards.

I like this kind of thinking. Some people go even further and consider all guards open or closed.

Dela Spider guard............Williams Guard, tornado guard, turtle guard

what exactly do you consider cross guard? I have seen a couple different instructors call something a cross guard that all look different than each other.

Thanks! :icon_chee

Yep, but it didn't sidetrack that thread hard enough. I should have done it earlier.

For the next troll thread that goes on too long like that one, let's make a pact to turn it into a Panda thread:D

When opponent is in my guard for that brief moment, my signature guard is called the "passed guard".

lol.

not sure if this is the right name, brazilian 2 on 1? or entangled arm guard? where you have same side sleeve, that same arm entangled, and a grip on that side lapel.

ex. i am on my back, left hand grips his right sleeve, left leg is over and under his right arm, and my right hand grips his right collar. something i'm starting to work on.

LOL, will do!

I consider cross guard 'standard' is the way that Robson Moura teaches it mostly because thats the first way i was taught it.

The passed guard is one that definitely plagued me when trying to learn new types ha
