Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs died by choking on vomit after using drugs and alcohol, according to the Tarrant County, Texas, medical examiner's office.

High levels of opioids, including fentanyl, oxycodone and oxymorphone, were found in his system, as well as alcohol, according to toxicology results. The death was an accident, according to the autopsy.

Nobody thought he used drugs. Did somebody give him some without his knowledge? Has he used drugs without anybody knowing. His family says
We will not rest until we learn the truth about how Tyler came into possession of these narcotics, including who supplied them."

Alcohol is involved in almost every drug overdose but usually isn't mentioned. Sad case, RIP

I'd been wondering what happened. They had kept such tight lips over the autopsy and everything. The Sheriff's department locked it down. Of course that made it obvious there was something untoward about how he died. I thought maybe he auto-asphyxiated like Carradine or something like that.

Never surprised when I learn pro athletes may have had hidden narcotic addictions. The escape from physical pain as part of everyday life-- tough to blame them.

Not everyone can die in their sleep surrounded by hookers and cocaine like Herb Abrams did.

its baseball though, its not like football where you put your body through multiple car crashes for 16 weeks

Definitely not, nor is it anything like MMA, but those pitchers are pretty much fucking their elbow and shoulder on a daily basis.

my cousin was a great pitcher and ruined his arm in college, he stopped trying after his last rehab and his muscles were so disproportionately worked he had a really weird shoulder pain that impacted his posture. He's only recently fixed it in the last 2 years. He's 31 now, had to quit baseball at 22. It's pretty fucked up.

They might not even throw on a daily basis. Most don't throw the day after a game and work up slowly to the next game which will be 4 to 6 days later.

I figured there was something more to the story. The way they initially reported it, you'd think he just randomly died of a heart attack, or something.

Sad either way. Choking on your own vomit in a booze filled haze is not a graceful exit, and doesn't get nearly enough attention as it should(it used to). All you're gonna hear about is "opioids, opioids, opioids", when really, it's likely the mixture with alcohol that ultimately did him in.

No opioid addict on this planet starts off doing fentanyl.

It's possible if someone gave him fake pills. There's a university relatively close by where some students press fake pills and it became a big problem a few years ago.

I've heard it called stacking, happens more than ppl think, opioides plus alcohol will slow down your body so much so when you sleep you risk respiratory depression and death, it's accidental, you dont have to be a drug addict for this to happen, just someone giving you a depressant at a party where you're drinking, you go to sleep and never wake up

Reminds me of Jose Fernandez, immediately after they rush to say no alcohol/drugs in the system, which turned out to be a complete lie

Yes, but many are give fentanyl when that isn't what they requested.

Mac Miller died from fentanyl despite that he requested Percocet (Oxycodone + Aspirin). The drug dealers get the fentanyl from China via Mexico. They step on it, and save a huge amount of money. They even carved the traditional label into the pills so that they looked identical to Percs. They're doing this for every opiate to increase their profits. It's evil.

Yeah, saw that the other day. Drug dealers aren't out to make sure everyone they service is safe.
