Two steps verification on Sherdog WTF??

I'm excited for this to happen. Hopefully most of the conspiracy theory nut jobs will be gone and balance will be restored on this beautiful forum.

It's insane overreach. The only platform I've seen require 2FA is my work and thats because everything we do is confidential. Asking a karate forum full of gen xers to do it is incredibly incompetent leadership and they will fully deserve it when this site inevitably dies.

Because “security” sounds better than “data mining”. This will allow active accounts (emails) to be identified, as well as some phone numbers of those dumb enough to use the app.

There are attempts to create forums that can’t be owned or taken down by anyone. They rely on seeding, a bit like bittorent. So it’s decentralized and no single person or entity owns it. It’s still at the wild stage and not super stable but it’ll get there. Check out plebbit.com, that’s one of them. Guy got sick of getting reddit banned and “moderated” into Bolivia so he went ballistic and create that new forum tech.

But asking to send a code to an email they had for almost 20 years? No real concern from me.

To be fair, enabling 2FA means we are giving the info that we still have access to said email address. And we are reconfirming that every 30 days. We are also letting them know that we are tech savvy enough to do that. If the site owners are pitching a sale, or seeking investment, or even presenting to potential advertisers, this type of user segmentation is very valuable. “We have X amount of verified users who log in every 30 days, we have Y amount who no longer log in but viewership is still Z amount so they are still reading. Etc.”.

But the reality is that 2FA wouldn’t have required the weekend outage. My guess is that there’s been a hack (and ransom?) at the forum level and fear that all the email addresses and passwords could/might have been scraped. In that scenario, the outage and mandatory 2FA seem logical.

He did act like an emotional doofus and got himself banned. He was told to take it easy, log off for a bit, and chill. Come back later. He decided against it. How is that talking shit? Lol.

If he's your bud, that's cool. He probably should have let cooler heads prevail so you two could continue to shoot the shit. It is what it is. In reality, you should be mad at him for removing himself from the boards in such a childish manner.
