• We are requiring that all users add Two-Step Verification (2FA) to their accounts, as found here: https://forums.sherdog.com/account/security Within one week, we will automatically set this up, so please make the necessary arrangements. Two steps verification on Sherdog WTF??

You are correct. Xenforo very strongly urged that we implement this, and we're listening.

Sorry to hear that, it's not a huge step and we try to make it as relatively painless as possible.
Were you guys getting a lot of hacks or bots or what?

The thing I don't like about the 2 step is it says we have to redo it every 30 days. Yeah, not a big deal for once a month, it only takes a minute, but also kind of a pain in the ass to have to keep redoing it.

I know I made some joking posts earlier but I am honestly kind of confused here so maybe someone can clear some things up for me.

So you have all these codes.. what do I need them for? From what I gather in 30 days it will ask me to verify to log in..

Will it give me a code or will I use one of the codes I was given? And this will continue for like 6 months? Then will I get more codes?

What happens if you lose your codes?

When you log in ... User name / password. An generated code will be sent to your email. You can either use that or click back up code and use one of those.

There is a 30 day option, then after 30 days you get emailed a new code for next 30 days.

Thank you, this information is NO WHERE on the site as far as I've seen, Jay Pettry said he might do a thread about this, but MIGHT!?

How the hell is anyone supposed to even know to do this let alone HOW to do it? I think there was a popup message the first time I visited after the weird weekend outage, but didn't pay attention and it hasn't shown up again.

I was platinum for many many years but unfortunately still stand by my decision to stop that a few years back due to egregious abusers being let back on the site over and over who do nothing but shit on other posters, while ostensibly (or rather, allowably) being inside the bounds of conduct.

I don't really understand what 2fa is or is for, to prove that we have access to our email account? What is the purpose? But now you're telling me there are codes plural that we'll need to write down and save?

Wouldn't it just be one per month to log in with then we get a new one the following month and throw away the previous one?

Are we really going to need to juggle/keep multiple codes?

Can someone who works for this site please chime in and answer folks' questions in this thread?

All you need to do is make sure you can access the email that you use on this forum. That's basically all you need. Remember all your email info.

The 2 step verification only shows once a month, not everyday. After 30 days, when you log in to this forum using your Username and password, it will ask you to input a code, and that is sent right away to your email. Go to your email, type the code and you're good for the month. It's really just a simple 'extra step' required once a month.

* If you forget the email address that you are using in this forum, you can see it here: https://forums.sherdog.com/account/account-details
* If it happens you forgot your password, PM an admin to sort you out.

If we set aside emotions and be objective here, this whole 2FA thing is not that complicated tbh.

Not sure if I want to bitch about this or tell you how easy it was. I'm undecided. Can someone explain the difference between the two candidates?

These codes can be used to log in if you don't have access to other verification methods such as your email. Keep these codes in a safe and secure place.
This means nothing to me.

It's an empty statement unfortunately.

So far I understand that we'll need to receive one singular login code per month via our email or cell phone or qr code or some third party app (stop me if this is wrong)

Where does the plural "codes" come into play?

How many?

Save for how long?

Why are there multiples?

You're correct. That's perfect.

If it happens you that you can't access your email you can select one from the codes from the 'Backup codes'. So really you just have to make sure you memorize all your email info and have no problem accessing your email. You don't have to think about the backup codes if you do. Hope this helps.

Ok I'm getting pieces here but still don't have the outer edge of the puzzle together.

What's an authenticator app?
Lol the mods must be baffled by how dumb we are.

But I think the problem here is the authenticator app and just how overly complicated they made this. It's just a simple code sent to your email to verify your log in. All the codes they send you like you're batman or something made my head spin
