I authenticated already but I tend to agree with you and don't like the general dismissiveness from the Mods and Admins about people voicing concern. There's people who have had 23 year old accounts on here, so many people with dead emails (shit mine was). Beyond this, making a forum modern is just called Reddit...the way you keep things like Sherdog around is by keeping it semi untouched, it's a relic of the past for people to enjoy and also for new people to discover because keeping it untouched makes it distinct in it's existence and little subculture...which makes it something new and gravitational for people who end up getting exposed to it as opposed to something like Reddit or what-the-fuck-ever.
This will undeniably push people away, the UFC foreigns died when they changed them, the UG died when they tried to change them, Tapology as a forum was never big but it's basically dead now too. Sherdog is it besides Reddit. Having some amount of anonymity has always been a charm of forums too, I'm sure you can say we will still have it but adding these extra verification steps does put it into question a bit.
