Health Two exercise related questions...

The answer is a squat rack.

You can do Burpees or go jogging for cardio but you can't safely put 200kg on your shoulders and hit ass to grass without a rack.

If you're not squatting and pressing heavy you're leaving most of your development on the table. Add a folding bench and you can do everything you could do on a gym. Barbell, dumbbells 200kg of weight.

This can all store against the wall when not in use.

My post-thrombotic syndrome seems to be hitting a rough patch.

I would love to improve my strength, but I think getting an exercise machine that will help with my blood flow in my legs should be top priority.

I can keep the gym going, just need something I can bust out indoors after meals, that isn't too big.

Good quality rowing machine. I purchased one a few years ago and it is
great, very easy to move and store in a corner. Yes it is expensive, but it is very durable and
will last many years.

Looks great, but far too expensive. Might have to go cheap...

I like this guy, since I dont have much room anymore. Put it in front of the tv or whatever, and just do hangs, leg raises, pull ups, and dips. Too unstable and not enough height left for muscle-ups, but that not important at the start or anything. Oh, it’s cheap too. That’s great.

I like that painting on the wall, even if it is a bit crooked ;)

van Gogh's The Church at Auvers. I have the same print hanging on my wall

In which case a wind resistance bike would be king. I have the rogue echo 3 which is not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Plenty of that type on the 2nd hand market. The best cardio possible imo. HIIT and steady state. It's king.

It looks good, but I'll probably go budget.

I'd like a full-body exercise machine, so I'm deciding between a rowing machine and an exercise bike. I think a rowing machine would be better all round, but an exercise bike would target my legs and blood flow more?

Hello.all,

1) If you could pick one machine for home exercise, what would it be?

A bench press. You can do so much with just a bar and weights. Literaly everything. Free weights > machines.

2) I'd like a freestanding punch bag that doesn't move or sway. Any recommendations?
Mmmm well just buy such a bag they exist. You can post choices and I can say which one I would like to get.

This one doesn't move too much

The surface does rip of eventually. But needs to anchor. A classic heavy bag can last forever depending on the material. But you gotta chain it into the ceiling sort of.

That cable pulley one because I can do 20 different exercises with it.

For punching bag that doesn't move, try punching your wall.

I wanted a rowing machine because the motion makes it closest to an amusement ride.

I now want a rebounder because they say it's good for circulation including lymph fluids(?), but at 4ft wide, takes up space. I watched a bunch of youtube reviews and assembly vids. Seems the newest ones use bungie cords and not metal springs. Not sure how many minutes I could do on one.

The rower is GOATed, but there's no push like there is in the airdyne/rogue echo type bikes which have levers to push and pull with your hands as well as the pedals for feet.

Also the bike motion is force production on the corresponding upper or lower limb, so your left leg pushes and your left arm pushes, this stresses your rotational stabilisers and trains force production useful for athletic movement.

All you need is a pair of dumbbells.

If you're just looking to lose weight and get in shape get some dumbbells and get on YouTube and build up to doing 30 minute no repeat full body dumbell HIIT workouts, just find a channel you like.

I started off with 6kg dumbbells and doing 10 minute workouts. Now I'm doing 30 minutes with 17kgs three times a week.

The no repeat keeps it varied, you do something like 45 seconds of reps followed by 15 second rest.

I've had exercise bikes, benches, machines, pull up tower and lot of stuff eventually turns into clothes racks, but you can get a brilliant workout with just dumbbells and it's pretty cheap.

Start off with something like this.

I made this change in about 8 weeks getting ready for a BJJ tournament, alongside running, eating healthy and BJJ.
