First off, I just want to commend the board for all of the glove reviews!! You guys are extremely thorough and extremely helpful. Thank you in advance for any help you might be able to provide to me. Now for my diatribe.

I just bought a new pair of Fighting Sports S2 Gel Elite Bag Gloves and I don't like 'em. Too cumbersome with the built-in grip bar and there's just too much padding on the palm of the glove and this does not allow for a natural fist closure. In order for me to make it comfortable at all, I have to literally push my hands all the way up into the top of the gloves and make a fist and hold that position without being able to relax the hand at all. When I was using these gloves, I simply could not make a proper fist and when I'd shoot straight punches, the gloves would hit the bag and want to shoot straight down rather than through the bag thus hurting my hands. Probably has something to do with the padding and how it bounces off the bag but not being able to make a good fist is more of the reason. I'm wondering if any of the Thai made gloves might be more up my alley. I've never used any of 'em so I'm really seeking some advice from those who may be familiar with them and can give me recommendations. By comparison, I can use my old Everlast bag mitts and have less problems with my hands than when I'm using the Fighting Sports (because the Everlast allow me to make a proper fist).

I really do not like gloves that have built in grip bars because it damn near seems impossible to get a proper fist closure. And too much material on the palm of the glove causes the same problems. Not being able to make a proper fist can cause all kinds of problems and it's simply uncomfortable. The reason for this is because I feel like I almost have to 'fight' against the material to make a closed fist and it tires out my hands and is just plain ol' uncomfortable. I need to be able to relax my hands in the gloves without feeling all bunched up. When I hit the bag, I keep my hands relaxed in the gloves until the point of impact. I do not keep my hands balled up in fists.

I am NOT looking for a bag glove necessarily, but, I don't want lace ups. A glove that has good air circulation would be a plus. I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg on gloves as I never have in the past and simply do not need to as I'm just doing bag work.

Also, my fist is 10 inches and I have 7 inch wrists. I'm small boned. 5'10", 185lbs.

Thanks for any help.

^^^^

the bgv1 is the only one without a grip bar. ITs a great glove, I have a few pairs that I use regularly.

Why do they all have grip bars nowadays? I don't get the love for them. Are any of the grip bars in these brands smaller than the other, or are they all about the same size? Are the grip bars metal or made out of different material? Thanks.

Im sure a variety of materials are used to make the grip bar, some brands even bill it as a grip hose.

I've never had a grip bar really bother me, at the same time, Ive never missed the grip bar when using the fairtex bgv1.

You would be surprised though at how many people complain about the lack of grip bar in the bgv1, even here on sherdog.

The BGV1-breathable has a grip bar. I have no idea what it's made of, but it ain't metal (feels like a high density foam roller). My wrists are a little under 6", I'm 5'3" and 118lbs. I'm using a 12oz. It feels comfortable and I'm able to keep my hands relaxed in them.
I ordered a pair of Twins for sparring as the BGV1 has a pretty dense foam which I don't want to spar with. Hope it helps!

The Everlast bag mitts I have came with a grip bar and I cut them out. lol

I've been looking at pictures of supposed Fairtex BGV1's online and some of them seem to have grip bars. I mean, it's not a big deal because I plan on ordering gloves through Amazon and if I don't like 'em I'll just send 'em back. But I would rather not have to try several pairs of gloves before I find some that I like.

Like the other guy said. The breathable ones have a grip bar, the standard ones do not.

I you get a pair of standard bgv 1 and there's a grip bar....they are fake, send them back.

Using lots of gloves, and using both fairtex bgv1s I much prefer the breathable. I just box though. The lack of a grip bar feels weird, and the leather wrinkled up a lot where the grip bar was supposed to be. My hand didn't close and didn't feel normal when making a fist. I know for most they said they couldn't tell a difference but for me I could definitely feel the difference. I rated fairtex as a whole poorly as a whole because of my experiences with the bgv5 and bgv1. But now I love the bgv1 breathable and the new bgv9 both are awesome gloves.

Again this is my opinion, twins are good and a lot of people are high on them. But I think overall they were my least fav out of the 4.

Windy prolines I loved but others didn't so ill rate those as 3rd

Boons I still use but only for sparring because the guys here say they bottom out on the bag quickly.

And fairtex is quite nice and my opinion of them has changed drastically (read above) so I rate them as 1.

I have gloves from all of them. I rotate between them all. Quick thoughts:
1. Boon -- hated them at first, love them now
2. Fairtex (BGV1, 14oz) -- great for pad and bag work
3. Twins (BGLV3, 16oz) -- if you hate grip bars you probably won't like these since it is very pronounced in these. Love them for sparring though, they're like giant pillows
4. Fairtex (BGV9, 18oz) -- Meh
5. Windy (TG30, 16oz) -- Good padding for bag use

Are you considering putting a bgv1-b review up? There doesn't seem to be any on here and would really be interested in your thoughts on them in more depth?

Heard so much good stuff about the BGV9, why don't u like it vegas?
@StRatoCastR, you hated the padding of the original BGV1. Is the breathable much better in this regard?

I wonder if the BGV11 is compactly designed like the BGV1 breathable or more like the standart version.

Good: I like the extra wrist support and firm padding
Not-so-Good: Internal hand compartment is too short for my fingers. The fabric is also coarse, like netting.

*Should note that a week after I bought mine Fairtex came out with an upgraded version. Unclear what the upgrades were, but maybe some of these things were addressed

Yeah but like I said before in other threads, I'm in the process of a major move so my next review won't be until at min 2-3 months away. Luckily I can still box but I just don't have my PC and other stuff to do so

Ok no worries, that's good that you can still train, moving home is a pain in the ass!! I would imagine you are probably gonna need to do a few trips just for your glove collection!! :)

Thank you very much for the responses and recommendations. I really appreciate it.
