The Ottomans were certainly massive degenerates. The whole idea of "fundamental Islam", in the sense that homosexuality and debauchery are actually looked down upon by Muslims, hasn't seemed to exist until the more recent times, and perhaps some other short periods of time in history.
They were always a much more vulgar bunch than the "Western degenerates". And it appears that they need very strict rules in order to not descend to that same level of degeneracy that they once practised freely.

I know this quote sounds weird, and if you isolate any bit of a conversation like this you can make it sound crazy, especially something like this. Just from my time in the Middle East, I'm going to assume a couple of things. This was probably something that was said a little tounge in cheek. Fundamentalist Muslims absolutely believe in a clear distinction between the sexes, and there are some sects of Islam that see the beard as the mark of a man. So he was really making a cultural joke that was clearly misunderstood outside of his culture that was basically "Bro, you don't have a beard, how am I suppoused to know that you aren't a woman?" combined with the fact that in many traditional Muslim cultures, though probably not an incredibly modern place like Turkey, any unescorted woman out by herself is considered a woman of loose morals and open to assault by any man who so chooses. So essentially this guy made the Turkish Cleric joke version of "nice skinny jeans, did you put your sister's pants on today?"
Secondly, many of these folks despise Western Culture. Turkey is kind of in an odd place right now as it's sort of in a cultural war as there are many traditionalist Muslims within Turkey, and there are many Turks who have embraced Western Culture and dress. He's taking a shot at those people. He's insinuating that they aren't masculine because they've shaved off their beards and traded in their connections to their own culture for something that he finds gross and disgusting. Many of the things that are just normal in the West, sex outside of marriage, children outside of marriage, couples living together before marriage, are all considered grave sins by traditional Muslims like this. We won't even get into how they feel about same sex relationships. Those aren't talking points to this man, he actually lives his life like that. It isn't an act. He's not on stage. There isn't any fakeness about it. At least for me, speaking of the men I encountered. You think your Conservative uncle or grandpa makes thanksgiving uncomfortable with his political opinions, go ahead and try to explain the wage gap, gender fluidity and non binary pronouns to a dude like this.
