Tuf-Wear 16oz.

Tuf-Wear Hook & Loop Training Gloves - Tuf-Wear Boxing Gloves - Boxing Gloves from Fighting Sports
100% Leather
Made in China
Purchased these from fightingsports.com, early March, when they were still on sale for $45. The Ratethisgear guy spoke highly of them so I thought I would give it a shot.
I ordered these gloves w/o contacting fightingsports so I have no idea about their service. I assume it is as good as titlemma or titleboxing. I received the gloves about 8 days after order.
Initial Impression: out of the box I was highly impressed. Little details like the pleating and red leather look exceptional. The overall craftsmanship of the glove is excellent. The first time I slipped on these gloves they felt perfect –very comfortable and snug along the wrist and hand.
First use: I loved the gloves. Every punch lands along the knuckles giving a very satisfying feeling. However, after the first hour of use I noticed some of the red stitching lying on the mats. Altogether there was about 4” of thread. I was concerned at first, but it hasn’t been a problem since.
Glove Dimensions: Height 12.25”; Width 5”; Depth 7.25”
My knuckles measure 8.25
Wrist: the elastic closure provides excellent wrist support. The Velcro itself is strong and requires quite a pull to open. However, I usually only have to unfasten one glove. Since my hands are small I can slip on one of the gloves w/o unfastening it.
Padding: Thick padding protects your entire hand and forearm. It even envelopes the finger tips. The padding is quite dense more so than Twins 16oz or Title Classic 18oz. After a month of pad work and sparring the gloves are still fairly dense. However, I have not logged that many hours w/the gloves so the padding may break down further. I also have not received any complaints from sparring partners. I do not want to give the impression that they are very dense or hard gloves b/c they are not –just not as soft as the Twins or Title Classics.
Cuff: The cuff itself is divided into 3 sections. It is approximately 1” thick 5.5” long and 5” wide. Provides great forearm protection when blocking.
Lining: is a canvas type material. I was worried it would scratch up my hands if used w/o wraps. However, after multiple uses w/o wraps I have not had a single problem. I actually now prefer it to regular lining.
Hand Compartment: Very comfortable. I can make a tight fist. Punches land along my knuckles. The gloves feel snug (more than Twins 16 oz) but the hand compartment is wide and there is space over the knuckles to accommodate wraps. One thing that may be of concern for people w/larger hands is the length of the compartment –my fingers push along the edge of the glove and I am only 5.5.
Stitching: The stitching is very good. As stated above some fell out after the first use, but none since. The piping is stitched a little messy especially when you compare it to Twins, which look absolutely perfect in this area. The Tuf Wear piping also looks as if they ripped the leather instead of cutting it cleanly. You can see what I’m talking about on the pics. But none of this has caused a problem so it’s pretty much a non issue for me.
After a month of use I still love these gloves. They look fairly new –no wrinkles; the pleating is not bunching up; and the stitching is holding up. Best of all they are extremely comfortable. I highly recommend these gloves.
Rating: 4.0
What I would change: Lace ups; softer padding; and piping similar to Twins.
