Trump's Ed. Pick with No Teaching or Admistrative Experience

Oh I get it.

Who should Trump have chosen to be confirmed by the Senate?

Oh I don't know, how about any one with qualifications for the job and not a crony with vested interest?

People in this forum aren't arguing against her because she's a Republican. That's what you don't get

Not-so-Breaking news: Trump nominates a living version of the character "Mom" from Futurama to oversee the educational system

deal with it, snowflake. Your side got it's ass handed to it and the country his completed rejected progressivism. you should cry more, though - it suits your ilk.
OK. Fine. But how is public education the way it has existed in this country for almost 100 years "progressivism"? You see how dumb it is to lump everything into one issue?

Education is a progressive conspiracy.

You got the 30th best score on a test. Not amazing, not terrible. But let's say your actual score was an 82, while the best grade in the class was a 91. Would you call your test a horrible failure?

Of course. 30th best? If you aren't first it's a failure in every sense of the word.

O.
The Puritans valued education, both for the sake of religious study (they demanded a great deal of Bible reading) and for the sake of economic success. A 1647 Massachusetts law mandated that every town of 50 or more families support a 'petty' (elementary) school and every town of 100 or more families support a Latin, or grammar, school where a few boys could learn Latin in preparation for college and the ministry or law.

Darn those progressive 17th century ultra-conservative Calvinist pilgrims!!!

I'm gonna just cut to the chase here for everyone so we can stop the silly back and forth.

It's like this: the wealthy (specifically conservatives) tend Republicans because Republicans champion elitist policy. Devos is a perfect example. The entire aim here is the relieve wealthy tax payers from having their money contribute to public education because frankly they don't think they should have to help pay for it. They want to break off all state services that buttress the middle class or the poor because (again) they don't like the idea of their money going to lesser people. Devos wants to put a charter school voucher system in to take money away from public education and put it into private for profit charter schools.

This process begins to separate the rich kids who can afford the best education from the poor who cannot. The end result is a firmer caste system that benefits the wealthy and elite. None of that means kids who're smart and highly achieving will actually benefit or be raised up. Quite the contrary, quality education will only be available to the wealthy even if their children are average or have special needs. Skip forward a generation and all of a sudden you have a much much worse education gap between wealthy and middle class/poor... it would absolutely dwarf the current divide.

For those of you in the middle class or really struggling that supported trump, understand all of the above and understand it well. You can always go back on your support and fight for yourself.

The Democrats are loaded with dummies and elitists but at least they try. The Republicans, people like Devos or Paul Ryan or Jeff Sessions want to destroy the states efforts at providing aid, support and an equal opportunity that fosters the highest chance of achievement. If we did that this country's economy would be light years better off in the long run because it would fully tap into the populations innovative potential.

Look no further than Sessions attempts to suppress equal rights to vote or Ryan's efforts to destroy care for the elderly. They're gutless, heartless people who don't care about making America great again - they care only or their own closest ilk.

For posterity I'll bump my own post.

I'll add to this that just today it has come out that Trumps administration will completely cut the National Endowment of the Arts and Humanities as well as the Corp for Public Broadcasting.

Back of the envelope calcs show their combined budget to be around $600M in 2015 or roughly 0.016% of total Federal expenditures.

There's nothing honerous about spending a paltry amount on arts and humanities. Republicans simply see it as liberal propaganda because the arts promote openness and creativity and that threatens hierarchy by sparking thought. This is pure pure partisan on their part.

Just one more example of them killing off things that we ALL have free access to and gain enrichment from.

The democrats put way too much emphasis on pushing the LGBTQ agenda.
It's called fighting outright discrimination driven by the GOP to woo religious conservatives in their base.

God forbid the Democrats try to stand up against oppression.

It's as if trump won 400 electoral votes and 60% of the popular vote.

Keep it up buddy.

I don't think there was ever much gay discrimination to begin with. I think the left tries to build up some crisis. Like the race card always getting overplayed by the left

Must not have taught the oldest boy to not molest his sisters nor cheat on his wife.
The rest of the brood, teach them to use a yahoo email for their Ashley Madison account.
That's a good one! LOL

You cannot be serious. No discrimination against homosexuality?

It's not the left playing any cards. It's the right wantonly discriminating and the left taking up the cause for the group being unconstitutionally discriminated against. Identity politics have been driven by the right since the Civil War was fought to uphold slavery. Spare me your revisionist history.

Go to the Middle East to see some real oppression!

I didn't say none. But I think there has been very little.

Many gay men are just over anxious compared to their hetero peers. The CDC cites this. Their moms and dads are unhappy that they came out and they project that and think everyone is out to get them. And Jr high and high school kids probably call them some names. But it probably doesn't happen too much after high school.

One gay dude actually beat himself up this year to make himself look like a victim. It was a hoax. Yet he checked himself into a hospital.

I just had a great idea! Betsy Devos should be in charge of schools in the Middle East! Over there, test scores like Michigan's would actually be an improvement. An idea both liberals and conservatives can get behind.
