Trump says he thought being president would be easier than his old life

The important take away here isn't that being the President is hard...we all know that.
I honestly think most people do not appreciate how hard it is to be president. Most people have a cookie cutter and over simplified idea of politics so they do not appreciate how complicated being president actually is. I think that is why people develop such a hatred for the president. They simply do not appreciate what a president does and think there is no way a president can do wrong if they just follow the simple blueprint.

As for Trump, all he needs to do is look at before and after pics of presidents. Granted most are pretty old when they get into office, but going in they look full of life and coming out they usually look like death. That job is absolutely brutal.

My man pulls through.

"Nobody knew that healthcare could be so complicated"
it's not complicated, only the politics behind it. Trump literally went from UHC supporter to free market proponent..... He knows the politics wont fly for him

Trump is not the first political outsider to hold office.

hello Seano,

ayup.

Mr. Trump is unique;

"In theory I could run my business perfectly and then run the country perfectly. There's never been a case like this” - Donald Trump

At the President's level generally speaking you are picking between nothing but bad options. Whatever choice you make, someone is going to be pissed at best and more often than not someone is going to die.

8 years is a long time for many folks, have you seen women 8 years later? A 10 could be shamu by then

Yah, I'm only mildly annoyed, for that reason: It's early.

hiho Overpressure,

you're right, it is early...but if Mr. Trump is disillusioned about the difficulty of the job, lol.

i feel like giving him a light punch in the arm, saying, "buck up, Don, it only gets harder from here. the first few months are supposed to be your honeymoon."

You know, there are plenty of things to criticize Trump on, but instead of focusing on the bigger issues some of you just eat up the most clickbaity articles. I don't think most people even bother reading them after reading the headline.

That being said, I will admit him handing out colored election maps sounds pretty sad.

He also thought overhauling healthcare would be a breeze.

The man is a moron what did people expect.

No disagreement, I think people do underestimate how hard the Presidency is.

But I think they also overestimate how hard they're really working also. Which is why they don't appreciate it's complexities. They think they simply transition their level of effort to the Presidency. Without realizing that their level of effort isn't as high as they'd thought.

Anecdotally, I once had a summer job packing books into boxes for shipping. Being a lawyer is light work by comparison. It pays better and I work longer hours doing it. But the level of effort is lower even though it doesn't seem that way at first glance. But I'd bet that most people assume that I work harder at the law than the box packing because it pays more.

What gets me is, now there are no qualifications other than being born here. He's better suited to wearing a clown outfit than the fucking Oval Office

You also need to win the election, so the problem is not Trump but America and the electoral system in place.

In all fairness to Trump, I think that just speaks to how difficult it is to be President.

I disagree slightly with this. Definitely during Obama's presidency when things were going shitty it was always "well it because of Bush".
And rightly so for the most part.
But by the sixth year that argument kind of lost a lot of its steam.
Either way that argument was there.

Well when people kept bringing up the debt (pulling us out of the recession), withdrawing troops from Iraq (on the Bush AUMF timetables), and anemic recoveries (It was a REALLY bad recession), can it be helped?

Not to say Obama was blameless, but his critics love to attribute things to him that he had nothing to do with or literally had years long cascading causes.

Someone just the other day was blaming Obama for coming after their guns, and when confronted about who advocated that, he brought up Feinstein. When pointed out that Feinstein is one person who doesn't have any kind of sweeping support, the response was "Well, Obama wanted to".

With that kind of delusion, what do you even say?

Because Obama inherited the largest economic crisis in decades coupled with a trillion dollar war that was kept off the books and an opposition whose only objective was to make Obama a one term president.

I think we're in an era of mediocrity. Is it even possible for a president to be considered universally great in this era?

I think it is. Look at many of our good or "great" Presidents; they were often preceded or sandwiched between poor or mediocre Presidents.

Maybe our culture is so far gone that we are incapable of discerning and voting for a person of exceptional character and ability, I think that argument could be made given the recent election. The spate of celebrities elected to high office is troubling.

Maybe true, but don't you even try to pretend, that hitlery was better suited for the job. There wasn't other choice.

The most surprising thing isn't that he had the assumption that being the president would be less work and easier, it's that he opens his mouth about it.

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

This is the kind of thing you never tell friends about, because the moment you do they're bound to say something to the effect of "Oh, so if I ever move, you'd be pretty good at helping with that".

And then you've got yet another person you need to hide from until the end of time.

Exactly. Between the escalation of ww3 that I was afraid clinton would usher in, to numerous campaign promises being broken or unable to be kept, to know his daughter saying Syrian refugees should be in the discussion, this guy is a joke.
Sad truth.
