Travis Browne was a better prospect than Ngannou?

If you compare these two records, you can clearly see that Travis Browne had a way more tougher competition. On his rise he beat three other legit prospects Schaub, Struve and Chad Griggs, who was 13-1 before he met Browne. Then he went on a very impressive 3 first round KO streak, destroying Barnett, Gonzaga and 5 years younger Alistair Overeem. UFC didn't protect him by giving favourable opponents, he faced best of the division at the time. He was way more well rounded also, unlike Ngannou Browne had gas tank for days going on a 5 round war with Werdum. He had better grappling, better takedown defence and better striking. Browne was legit 6'7 giant who moved like a middleweight, while Ngannou is only 6'3, which is very average for a heavyweight. Too bad he left John-Winklejohn gym and then USADA came destroying another promising fighter's career

Nah Browne basically got by on those gimmick semi illegal elbows and Reem(or lets remember nearly TKOed him and would have caved his skull in with knees on the ground) being so flakey.

Ngannou clearly isn't without clear flaws but theres much more potential there.

travis had a great run, i was high on him for a while

then came edmund targeryan and that toxic tampon of misery, rando

Agreed, things were good in Browne's world till he met these two..

Francis gasses after one round and it still doesn't look like he thinks his cardio is an issue.

That's not what I would call "much more potential". Power doesn't equal potential.

Fuck no. He was geeatly overrated simply because of the KO's on his record. His best wins came from elbows that were borderline illegal, and by spamming telegraphed front kicks.

Browne was NOT a better prospect and nobody ever viewed Browne as a better prospect.

Yeah I'd agree there he has some clear issues that are likely to dog him if he doesn't fix them but Browne was always a gaulky big man who looked like he'd trip over his own legs.

Ngannou's couple of big wins you could argue might have been somewhat lucky(at least to be so easy) but Travis was winning fights with those gimmick elbows everyone quickly learnt to avoid, that's not something to build a career on.

It's hard to say, but Browne was thought to be a legit HW with a good body of work.
He was favored in the first Werdum fight by most of the people I know.

Watch the Bigfoot fight again, Browne is so clumsy he actually injuries himself and then gets blasted.

Lol... I wanna start by saying that the elbows are 100% illegal...

But what does semi/borderline legal even mean? Lol

Fracis' best accomplishment is getting his ass whooped by Stipe and KO'ing Overeem.

Travis turned into a scrub, but at one point he was 16-1-1 with wins over Struve, Overeem, Barnett, and Gonzaga.

Browne was a better prospect than guys like Blaydes, Derrick Lewis and Volkov, but he wasn't a better prospect than Ngannou.

Ngannou fought for the title, Browne didn't.

Yeah I tend to agree, I was more being kind to Browne who was I think exploiting ref's not being turned on to illegal blows in this situation the way they say are when someone is turtling on the ground.

Again I think whether legal or not this was a really cheap gimmick that he built his rep on and it was never going to last, you can see he tries the same trick vs Werdum 1st time who's wise to it.

Ngannou might have been a bit lucky to beat Reem and ARlovski as quickly as he did(well'll see about that in the future) but he still beat them by a more conventional fashion that's far harder to avoid not some cheap gimmick that is.

There's nothing illegal about the elbows he throws though
Not every one, but he very clearly hit both Barnett and Gonzaga a few times. Regardless, the point I'm trying to make is that his KO's aren't a good barometer of his striking skill.
