So guys, need a bit of help here.

Currently train at Roger Gracie's academy in London. I do like the place, great training (though Roger rarely teaches) and friendly people. Also they have focused beginners classes (my level).

However, it takes me just under an hour to get there (45 mins on a good day). And the class mat time is 1 hour.

Today I found a small BJJ academy like a 5 minute walk from my house. Saves me a lot of journey time, they offer 1.5 hours of mat time per class, and its a smaller group so more focused attention. It is also half the price of Roger Gracie's academy. Went there to check it out and liked it too.

Now the problem is, this small academy is moving further out next month, so it will be more like 40 mins from my house, so the big advantage of walking down in 5 minutes is gone. Also, while the classes are more focused there are no beginner classes for my level, and the instructor teaches one class for all belts.

Initially I thought leaving Rogers place to get more mat time for half the price and a 5 minute walk from my house was a no-brainer, but now I am not too sure.

What would you guys do in my shoes?

The people who get better are the people who train more.

Go to the place you can get to more often.

Agreed. I can probably get to each place three times a week. One offers half an hour more of mat time but potentially less beginner focused training. The other offers one hour of mat time per class but it's Roger freakin Gracie's place.

if you have limited grappling experience, then go where it is most convenient and where you can get lots of mat time. if you have lots of grappling experience, then i would say, go to the school that fits your grappling style and game.

What's the quality of the place you've found?

Given the choice, if you could afford it and since the commute is the same, I'd stick with Roger's just based on reputation

i would pay just to take a 40 minute ride in london everyday.

check your privileges, mate.

but seriously, dont you like the place you train? if you feel you are progressing i think it is a good place isnt it?

i mean, if money is a big issue then i would certainly train at the less expensive more training gym.

you know, bjj is bjj.

i would check if this other place is legit.

lots of things matter...people who smell, people who like to teach beginers, friends, you know.

also, if you spend 1hour rolling and learning techniques you can train other atributes. You can lift, do calistenichs, run...depends on your goal...

but man...

tap your oyster card and take a trip 3x a week in one of the greatest cities in da world. Learn to enjoy life.

im sorry for brexit by the way

I'm sure Roger might have more advanced training as you get better. If you are training 3 times a week at a legit school in one year you will not be in the beginner class. I'm not sure who teaches at the other school. Are they better than Roger or Rogers instructors? If you have access to great training, good people and you can afford it why wouldn't you?

Thanks for the replies guys, helped me decide to stay at Rogers!

And to the guy that sent his apologies for Brexit, condolences accepted ; )
