It has been quite a few years since the last Stephen Chow film hit the United States (that would be the charming kids flick CJ7), and for those who have been missing his wackiness, here

Second Teaser Trailer for Stephen Chow's JOURNEY TO THE WEST

Last November, the promotional team behind Journey to the West dropped the first teaser upon the world. Now it would seem another short clip has found its way onto the internet. Co-directors Stephen Chow and Derek Kwok are currently keeping details about the flick close to their respective chests. Chow remained tight-lipped on the plot but revealed there is a love story, and his special brand of humor is presented as with all his previous films.

As the film’s 2013 release date draws near, chances are more information about the flick will come to light. Right now, all you need to know is that the film features an array of computer-generated shenanigans involving monsters and magic. “Journey to the West” stars Shu Qi, Bo Huang, Zhang Wen, Show Luo, and Chrissie Chow.

First Teaser Trailer for Stephen Chow's JOURNEY TO THE WEST

Journey-to-the-West-Teaser-Dragonlord-1.jpg

After a year of keeping mum from the general public on Journey to the West, director/writer/producer Stephen Chow finally unveiled the first concept teaser for his fantasy comedy in a press conference held in China today. In the press conference, Chow says he no longer plays a major role in this film and focused more on the directing aspect of the production. Chow remained tight-lipped on the plot but revealed there is a love story, and his special brand of humor is presented as with all his previous films. Production company Huayi Brothers plans to create the most spectacular domestic special effects film in China that is on-par with Hollywood blockbuster standards.

Even though shooting was finished since the beginning of last year, there was a long period of post-production at Macrograph that was required to complete a large proportion of the computer special effects involving creatures, magic and supernatural elements. The concept teaser shown to the press is still a work-in-process and doesn't necessary reflect a finished version. A sequel to continue the ongoing Monkey King saga is definitely on the cards, hence the "Journey - Fell Monsters Chapter" in the literal translated title.

As mentioned before, Derek Kwok (Gallants) is the co-director and the cast includes Shu Qi, Bo Huang, Zhang Wen, Show Luo and Chrissie Chow. The theatrical release date is tentatively during the Spring Festival in 2013.

It's great we'll finally get another Stephen Chow film. Loved Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. CJ7 was alright with some hilarious moments here and there.

The score in the Journey to the West trailers reminds me a whole lot of the epic music from Kung Fu Hustle. The FX for JTTW looks kinda iffy (but that didn't stop Chow's previous films from being awesome).

He's never appealed to me. His comedies needed you to speak Cantonese and his more recent films are way too CG-heavy.

Stephen Chow is a genius. His imitation of Bruce Lee starting at 0:16 is phenomenal:

Stephen Chow Sing-chi has entered the Year of the Snake with a bang, with his fantasy blockbuster Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons earning 78 million yuan (US$12.5 million) on its first day of release on mainland China. With its takings on Feb. 10, the New Year

I adore Shaolin Soccer and despise Kung fu hustle. Sadly, this looks more like the latter.

I really enjoyed the book Journey to the West, it was the shit. I liked the hell out of Soccer and Hustle, too. Looks like this should be up my alley.

Man I was super hyped for this but the full-length trailer looks pretty shitty to me... I'm hugely disappointed, let's hope the full movie is gonna be better.
