Total fights of champions in 2025

Joshua Van has 4 because he was not champion in 3 of them.

As soon as the belt is put around them it's immediately "none of these guys are worth my time", "I want the money fight", "need some time off", etc...

People still think Aspinall should hold the belt even if he takes until end of year to defend because of surgeries. UFC needs to crack the whip and do what they did at LHW with Hill and Jiri. Works best, also makes a good fight for their return.

It has already been said, but the Josh Van stat needs context.

Blame the UFC. They allow this inactivity. Defend or vacate. Religious holiday? That’s your problem. Injured? Interim belt incoming. Don’t like the #1 contender? Also your problem. Want to jump weight classes? Vacate your belt and another championship fight incoming.

Dana’s whole premise was that boxing was flawed and in the UFC, the best fight the best. This is clearly not the case and meritocracy is dead.

Merab didn’t do that. He fought 4 times as the champion in 2025.

Some people don’t like his style. But you can’t be more active than he was as a UFC champion.

Spam 200 failed takedowns and get maybe three, who lead to 20 seconds of the other guy getting back to his feet.. And repeat.. Zzz

I will rather see one alex pereira ko a year then four merab kardio matches.

I also blame the UFC for under paying fighters. I forget who said it but I remember a fighter saying they made like half the money in their next fight after losing the belt, and they still had to fight a top 3 guy in a 5 rounder. Also, being champ gets you paid with sponsorships, appearances etc so you can afford to take time off.

Yeah I have been complaining about it for ages, since Covid Lockdown times the amount of times champions defend the belt is so little, always some mysterious injury or mysterious problem/issue as to why they can't fight. Inactive champions has hurt the UFC so much, they also use the so called "superfight" nonsense to get another belt as another excuse to not defend the belt. I can see right through it all, flash in the pans the lost of em, no substance.

Thats a big reason why there is a lack of stars in UFC these days as well, no one has any consistency, if they can be long reigning champions then they would become a star and build that "aura", Anderson for example was not a star and had no aura when he first came to UFC, but because he had 16 UFC title fights it built a huge aura and he became so big and he was must watch. But now they want 0 title defenses and to ask for boxing with Paul or a superfight, but its no superfight when you haven't even reigned and done nothing lol.

The stat is weird since several of the fights in those numbers aren't title fights and it excludes the fights by champs who lost the belt like Merab. That being said, the number if you just add up title fights is probably around the same.
