Toronto Sun mocks murder of Local rapper with headline

They're not an opinion paper, anymore than the Star, or Post. They cover the news. Real news. Of course they have a slant, but so do all the rest. Wiki doesn't know what a tabloid is. To compare The Toronto Sun to something like the National Enquirer is absurd.
The Post and Sun are tabloids too. They also cover "real news", unlike the fabricated tales in papers like the Weekly World News. In the strictest sense, tabloid literally refers to any newspaper smaller than a broadsheet- traditionally this was used by papers with lower standards of journalism.

Okay, well maybe technically they could be considered one. However, nobody is thinking of the traditional application of the term. When you hear "tabloid", you think of stories involving Aliens, Wolf Babies, and the like. The Sun does not qualify. They're a legit news source. A poor one perhaps, but not a silly tabloid you'd pick up on the magazine rack at the grocery store.

Nope, the first thing that pops into my head are Rupert Murdoch's papers (the king of tabloid media). I've never read the print version of the Toronto Sun but have seen quite a bit of their online content. They seem even less trustworthy than the NY Post (America's most celebrated tabloid) from my outsider's perspective.

Oh, and for the record, it's not just right wing papers that are tabloids. The NY Daily News is the leftward rival to the Post and they're just as representative of the genre.

I can't speak to their online content, but the paper is just a regular old paper. All the same sections as any other. Legit stories, opinion pieces, sports section, entertainment section, etc. There's nothing that stands out as especially ridiculous. It does have a political slant, but shit, what paper doesn't? Why use the NY Daily News, when you could just as easily use the "New York Times", as a ridiculously Left wing slanted outlet?

I'd be hard pressed to even name one outlet that is totally neutral and not politically compromised in some way, and doesn't sensationalize stories to fit their agenda.

Because the NY Times is a broadsheet. "Tabloid" is a literal definition, and most papers using that format live up to the stereotypes of the genre.

The NYT "moderately favors the left"...

"moderately"...LOL

Anyways, we're gong in circles here. I think we understand where we're both coming from. Just got a bit hung up on the technical application of "tabloid". If they're technically a tabloid, so be it. I'm just saying The Sun is a legit news source, and not some silly rag like the Enquirer, which is what I was originally responding to.

I've already said that they're not the greatest. They are more "sensational" and easy read newspapers, when compared to the rest, but that's a far cry from reporting on Bigfoot impregnating Jennifer Aniston.
Yeah. For sure. That would be helluva scoop though!

do they still have the sunshine girl?

So I guess you missed the mountains of complaints in the War Room decrying the NY Times' anti-Bernie bias due to their centrist leanings?

Not sure, TBH. I remember there being some hooplah a while back and they removed them, but I'm pretty sure they brought them back pretty quickly. Kind of like when Playboy stopped being a porn mag for five minutes, before they realized that nobody is buying that shit for the articles, and brought the titties back.

i think its kind of fucked to make a joke from somebody that died, but damn, that was funny though
