Media Topurias training

Well, the good thing about cases like Topuria is that we can put an end to the classic mma narrative that a fighter NEEDS to travel to the US and join a gym with 10s of pros to be able to compete in the UFC...
Yea this isn't the case in boxing or MMA.

Topuria is very talented. A few things of note are how quickly Rodriguez put Emmett away compared to Topuria’s 5 round war. Emmett’s lunging forward and massive hooks became very predictable very quickly and Topuria happened to take a few more of those than he needed to I thought. Granted, Emmett was relentless in his forward pressure. Topuria is clearly a top 3 guy but I’m still not sure how things go for him against Yair or Volk. Either way it will be the best fighting the best and who can complain about that?!

He's an athletic beast and an incredibly well-rounded fighter, but we really haven't seen him fight truly elite competition at FW yet. In no way is he realistically ready for a title shot - here's the list of opponents he's fought and a quick synopsis of each.

Youssef Zalal - underrated scrapper and tough to finish, took him to a decision which is respectable in your debut.

Damon Jackson - another scrapper but primarily a grappler with poor striking defense, has been sparked early repeatedly before. Illia does what he does best and ruins his whole shit.

Ryan Hall - pure grappler with funky kicks as a distraction to get grappling engagements somehow. Illia just stays away and he results to trying endless Imanari rolls that eventually get him in hammerfisted into side-control and finished.

Jai Herbert - huge LW striker, but tall-man's striking defense and questionable chin. Almost kills Illia with a headkick, but he shows heart and survives to come back and just murder Jai when he is tired and on the retreat against the cage.

Bryce Mitchell - relatively unathletic but crafty grappler that has some underrated striking offense but poor defense. Comes in "sick" (or so he claims) and gets beat up for most of the fight, but he does hurt Illia with a body shot and have him on the retreat for an extended period at one point. But can't handle the power or pressure, wilts under the shots and basically gives up an arm triangle to escape the beating.

Josh Emmett - compact, powerful, predictable striker that wants to catch you coming in to brawl with him or trying to escape the brawl on the way out. Ilia just stays patient and throws crisper, straighter punches with tighter footwork and less predictability and just pieces him up.

My conclusion = he's feasted primarily on "specialists" in his UFC run - the most truly well-rounded fighter was Zalal in his debut. Jackson/Hall/Mitchell are all grapplers; even though Jackson has some decent hands and Mitchell has decent kicks they all have shit defense and ability to chain or build. Herbert and Emmett are pure strikers (yes I know Emett can wrestle but he doesn't really), but at least they have different body types and styles so it show-cased some different adaptability.

He honestly should be fighting Allen or Evloev - out of all the guys in the top 10 (excepting Volk) those are the most truly well-rounded fighters that would be able to test him in a lot of different areas and see if he is actually ready for Volk.

Problem is they are short on contenders so they could just burn one if they put him in those fights and he loses. They did that with Allen's 10-fight win streak against Max, they might not want to risk it again here with Illia.

Don't really get what's so special about this vid in particular that makes you think he'll be future champ lol. A lot of guys with good supportive camps in fact it's a requirement at this level.

And as long as Volk is in his prime and holding the belt I'm not convinced anyone else is gonna be champ ha .Don't think he beats Max either and Arnold Allen would be a tough fight plus Ortega's a wild card.

Still it's definitely possible. Hs murderous KO of Jai Herbert(even though we was slightly losing that fight before the KO) and sub of Bryce Mitchell were super impressive. KO'ed a very talented striker that had a reach advantage with one punch and then subbed a grappling wrestler fucker back to back.

Yeah let's not talk in superlatives. Not sure he can beat Volk or Holloway but he is most certainly top 3 material though.

Emmet is a monster and he showed he had what it takes to methodically, yet assertively outclass him.

He has very good boxing (not just hands, but actual boxing skills) and good wrestling, is very physical with a good cardio and has a top tier mindset and approach.

I think at the least he enters some top3 revolving door at 145.

After watching this, I am convinced he will be a future champ. He has a great team around him. A very high level mitt man and boxing coach. World class grappling. Man, this is some very advanced training. Not to mention just a superb athlete.

You can skip through the parts where they are talking and doing stuff and just go straight to the clips of him training

His team in Alicante are no mugs as well.

I think they have to stop making them all fight Max on the way to the title. Let Max fight Emmet and Torpuria have a bash at Volk/Yair winner

Evloev fight is interesting. I think Topuria negates the wrestling and pieces him up on the feet.

They let him continue sparring at hardknocks with a massive cut.
How unprofessional is this?
