After watching this, I am convinced he will be a future champ. He has a great team around him. A very high level mitt man and boxing coach. World class grappling. Man, this is some very advanced training. Not to mention just a superb athlete.

You can skip through the parts where they are talking and doing stuff and just go straight to the clips of him training

Don't really get what's so special about this vid in particular that makes you think he'll be future champ lol. A lot of guys with good supportive camps in fact it's a requirement at this level.

And as long as Volk is in his prime and holding the belt I'm not convinced anyone else is gonna be champ ha .Don't think he beats Max either and Arnold Allen would be a tough fight plus Ortega's a wild card.

Still it's definitely possible. Hs murderous KO of Jai Herbert(even though we was slightly losing that fight before the KO) and sub of Bryce Mitchell were super impressive. KO'ed a very talented striker that had a reach advantage with one punch and then subbed a grappling wrestler fucker back to back.

I feel like Topuria looks great in training too just keep in mind he's a great athlete, solid technique too, but he's a fast, explosive and powerful guy which always translates visually. I know he doesn't look explosive and athletic but he's one of the more explosive and athletic guys on the roster.

I'd be more interested in who his coaches are? Backgrounds, what's their history in developing talent? What's their competition history before coaching? Who are his teammates? Does he cross train and if so where?

Well, the good thing about cases like Topuria is that we can put an end to the classic mma narrative that a fighter NEEDS to travel to the US and join a gym with 10s of pros to be able to compete in the UFC...

I'm sure his camp is good, but Volk grapples with Craig Jones, sparred with Izzy and Roon for his camp with Yair.

That's a pretty hard camp to top.

This is exactly what he is literally doing...
nope, he still trains in Spain. Only goes away for short periods for specific camps. Other fighters here do the same.
Moving full time to join teams is a mistake.

No one at FW is as good in any area as Topuria.

At this point,Volk and Yair are just fighting to see which one of them gets to be dog-walked by Topuria next.

Yeah he looks great because of his athleticism, I’ll give you that. Seems like he does his camps at kill cliff, so hooft helps him out along with his main trainers

I mean if you watched the video he cross trains at kill cliff

I follow a Belgian MMA podcast that features a former belgian fighter who faced topuria and a former Belgian MMA coach who is acquaintances with topuria's main coach in spain. Some of the interesting tidbits from what they have said is that topuria's coach doesn't teach kicks. At all. In their opinion, the weakness to kicks exploited by herbert was nothing new and largely because of the lack of kicking knowledge in his camp. They also said that topuria is extremely physically strong. Oh, and that his camp has a very ....unscientific way of cutting weight and basically are just learning it via trial and error.

Granted, topuria has recently done some cross training and brought new people aboard, so maybe things have changed.

His coaches are the Climent bros. These guys were born in Argentina, where they started training BJJ at a Carlson Gracie afiliated academy, and came to Spain in 2002. They started their own gym and began competing in Spain, starting in the Valencia area, where they met other Spanish bjj standouts like Tito Beltran. Just so you can see how small the Spanish MMA circuit is, Beltran runs the matrix team where other Spanish UFC fighter (Joel Alvarez) trains at.
They were a grappling focused team but soon started developing mma talent. Topuria bros joined soon after their family moved to Spain when they were 15. His other team mates normally compete in the Spanish/European circuit. Some are quite good, like Pepe Torres, but still not UFC level IMO. TI've heard that they're pushing to get Alex Topuria to fight in the UFC. IDK, from what I've seen of him, he's not as good as his brother.

None of this sounds very reassuring. Regardless Topuria has wild natural abilities though and I'm sure he trains hard nevertheless.

Well, he didn't get there just because he's a natural, that's a ridiculous thing to say.

like I said, fighters here only travel for short periods since none think (and have gone on record on multiple interviews) it's a good thing to move full time to these all-star camps.

You're right, it's a wild thing to say but if you check carefully I never said that. I said Topuria has wild natural abilities and I'm sure he trains hard nevertheless. Some guys do better when they're the only big fish as it is, BJJ coaches with amazing credentials are a dime a dozen and not exactly the most translatable skillset, I'm sure his gym is comprehensive though just like most MMA gyms. He has the wrestling base from youth and seems to focus a lot on his hands too, his kick defense has been bad and he doesn't throw many offensively.

MMA training is still developing in Spain, until not long ago what they would normally do is focus on grappling/bjj and prepare striking with kickboxing/boxing pros and there were few places where you could train specifically for mma. Hence what you normally would see in Spanish fighters is good striking, very good mma grappling (see Topuria, Espino, Joel, guys who came prior to these who never reached the UFC like Daniel Tabera... all fantastic submission grapplers) and lacking wrestling since there is very little tradition here. Topuria benefited from the years he trained while in Georgia (between the age of 7 and 15 y.o.) so he got this covered. Espino was a FANTASTIC wrestler tho, easily the best Spanish grappler (bjj and wrestling) ever. He started in Canarian folk style wrestling and could compete in any kind of wrestling competition.
Gyms like Climent or Tibet (where Joel comes from) developed their system/methodologies through trial and error from the ground up, starting almost from zero.
