Top K1 fighter VS Top Muay Thai Fighter

Don't stop there. What if we took a Shootfighter, a Sumo wrestler, a Boxer, a TKD Champion, a Savate practitioner, and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master, put them in a cage, and made them fight in a one night only tournament?

LOL'd, Solid stuff 10/10

Essentially completely different sports, use of the elbows and clinching is not allowed in K1 and for a lot of Thai fighters that is where you cause the most damage.

It really comes down to the individual fighter. In K1 rules, Muay Thai fighters lose some of their potent attacks because of the limited clinch work and the lack of elbows, although some Muay Thai fighters have done real well in K1, and Buakaw took a championship. K1 fighters who took a fight under Muay Thai rules would be weak in the clinch and not used to the elbows, but they'd still have a chance. It's really going to be who is "on," that night, and who game plans the best. Someone used to fighting under K1 rules in a Muay Thai fight is probably going to try to fight from the outside and avoid the clinch / elbows. The MT dude is probably going to try to get close and take the K1 dude out of his element. A lot of MT fighters also have extremely underrated boxing. They still have great hands (see Samart Payakaroon) and great kicks, so it isn't like they're ill equipped for K1 rules. Its a toss up.

Muay Thai in MT rules, K1 in K1 rules.. elbows can change everything in extensive periods in a clinch.

I've always wondered how a k1 champ would fair against a Muay Thai champ from Thailand. Remember the two guys GSP brought in to sharpen his skills? How would those guys fare in a k1 tournament?

Umm.....here you go TS.

Lamsongkram probably get TKO'd.

Top kickboxer vs top Muay Thai fighter under Thai rules and the Thai wins 80-90% of the time.

Top kickboxer vs top Muay Thai fighter under kickboxing rules and it's a coin flip.

GSP's Thai training partner was not a top Muay Thai fighter.

I'd say a muay thai fighter has a higher chance to win in a kickboxing fight than a kickboxer would have to win a muay thai fight.

You talking about Lamsongkram if so that's a bit harsh he's chinny as fuck but was a multiple time Raja champion, WBC, and WMC champion. Or was there another Thai they brought in I know he has worked with JWP and JCS too.

It can't be overstated how little importance is on the Rajadamnern middleweight division. There's a reason so many of his title fights happen AFTER main events. Even Thais putting on his fights didn't really give a fuck. Dude often couldn't even get a slot on the main portion of average at best shows.

Lamsongkram isn't garbage, but he's never been a top 100 Muay Thai fighter.

that's not a k-1 champ but someone who fought in american-style kickboxing without low kicks. The result would most probably have been the same if he had fought a k-1 fighter using lots of lowkicks too...

Samart Payakaroon vs the old school K1 roster is a wet dream of mine.
He had amazing kicks + excellent hands
(after retiring from Muay-Thai he became a very successful boxing champ).

tong po is a pussy, belgium fighter. Night of the mummy.

Michel Qissi is more Moroccan than Belgian IIRC
And as Suan Paredes (yeah it's weird to see him with hair :P ),
he was kicking Chong-Li's ass (he found his weakness, his belly, which Van Damme picked up and told Jackson about it before he fought Li) before Li went full Weidman on him and broke his shin. :icon_conf
Frank Dux: Go for the gut. He's soft there.
Ray Jackson: What the hell are you talking about?
Frank Dux: Chong Li's weak in the gut. That's how Parades surprised him.

... damn I have watched this movie (and "The Quest" as well) way too many times as a kid

(that gif with Weidman's head on Li and Silva's head on Parades was gold, underrated gif)

What the hell is this thread.....

Why does it matter?

Take either a top K1 fighter or MT fighter and drop them in against a top MMA fighter - who would win? - See what I did there.

It's all relative and pretty pointless.

I think it got moved here from UFC discussion.

I also think I saw a thread there where people were arguing that Jose Aldo would be competitive with Buakaw, Samart and Sam-A in FTR cause 'K1 striking is a myth'.

I don't disagree with your assessment, but he fought the second half of his career almost exclusively in K-1.
