I've always wondered how a k1 champ would fair against a Muay Thai champ from Thailand. Remember the two guys GSP brought in to sharpen his skills? How would those guys fare in a k1 tournament?

It's all in the rules and what you can and can't do. If it's Muay Thai rules, Muay Thai guy wins. If it's in K-1, the kickboxer wins. Is K-1 still around? We have been seeing more of Glory Kickboxing

The Muay thai fighter wins...

Why is this in the UFC discussion??

It's like, there's never been a muay thai fighter in K1?

a muay thai fighter, buakaw, went to k1 and fought under k1 rules.

he lost a few fights. won most of the fights. had many highlights. and took home 2 grand prix.

I assume this fight will take place in the UFC? Hence in the Heavyweights???

To answer your question it is completely dependent upon the individual fighters involved. I have seen kickboxers/K1 fighters beat Muay Thai guys and the other way around. Completely subjective.

That's like asking how an MMA guy would fare in boxing. You are limiting their offence to suit the sport, they are trained for more tools, so obviously less effective if you take them away compared to guys who train only those tools.

Depends how skilled the fighters are at what they do. Plenty of examples of both types of fighters beating the other type.

-Marat Grigorian destroyed Aikpracha Meenayothin but was soundly beaten by Yodsanklai.

-Davit Kiria beat Kem Sitsongpeenong but was finished by his stablemate Sittichai.

You don't even have to like K1 to have heard of Buakaw at the very least, lol

I'd recommend checking out Masato/Buakaw fights to get an idea of how it goes, some of my favorite fights

Don't stop there. What if we took a Shootfighter, a Sumo wrestler, a Boxer, a TKD Champion, a Savate practitioner, and a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master, put them in a cage, and made them fight in a one night only tournament?
