Top 10 best HW of all time

I'm not sure anyone would have beat peak Ubereem. He did not lose an MMA fight and only lost to Badr Hari in K1 after he had already KO'ed him. No real shame in that.

Ngannou is now the most overrated fighter in MMA history after reading this thread

Given that the old guard were relevant until very recently and that new elite talent at HW is like finding bigfoot this is the division where the "MMA's evolved so much" argument is the weakest so I don't get the point of pointing out how superior fighters are today. For that to apply there needs to be different fighters. Overreem remained at pretty much the same place for 15 years and that's cause honestly HW remained more or less the same outside a few special individuals for that period of time. There's a reason Arlvoski is still around, Cro Cop got better in his 40s and Fedor is still winning most of his fights.

I feel HW's one of those divisions were there's a lot of people you could make GOAT cases for before Stipe they are all pretty even with their pros and cons so besides Stipe so here's 10 other ones unnumbered.

DC, Werdum, Ngannou, Barnett, JDS, Cain, Carwin, Cro Cop, Fedor, Rutten.

Gane, Volkov, Blaydes and Jairzinho are the 4 relevant fighters born after 1985 but besides Gane all of them have been stopped before getting to the top. Beating Overeem is something Chuck Liddell was able to do at LHW he had to flee that division 15 years ago. Volkov couldn't beat Kongo in Bellator and I think he's the oldest fighter in the sport. JDS is the only old guy these guys have been beating who used to be truly elite.

This is not a HW GOAT thread, that’s a discussion between Fedor and Stipe. This list is based purely on skill and athleticism, who would be the favourite to win against everyone else.

#1 Francis Ngannou

2021 version of Ngannou might be the most dangerous man to ever have competed in MMA. His size, power and athleticism combined with his underrated striking and now improved wrestling and fight IQ is an almost unbeatable combination.

#2 DC

Strikeforce DC was a beast. Best wrestler to ever compete at HW, exceptionally fast, good boxing and elite ground game.

#3 Stipe Miocic

Stipe that fought Ngannou the first time was probably the most balanced HW ever. Not the best at anything, but very good across the board- striking, grappling, size, power, durability and speed.

#4 Fedor Emelianenko

Fedor was absolutely the best fighter of his era and way ahead of his time. Super agile and fast, elite judo throws and good ground game. Not extremely technical in his striking, but very effective because of his speed and power. A bit undersized for a HW though.

#5 Cyril Gane

Still hard to judge his actual level, because he hasn’t faced enough high level competition, but thus far he has looked as the most technical striker to ever compete at HW. His footwork is unbelievable for a guy his size. Great fight IQ and physical attributes. His lack of KO power might be his only weakness.

#6 Cain Velasquez

The best pressure fighter of all time at HW. He was grinding his opponents like no one else did before. His stand up had a lot of holes though.

#7 Alistair Overeem

Ubereem was a scary beast with amazing striking and very grappling as well. Unfortunately for him, his glass chin didn’t allow him to the best.

#8 JDS

Prime JDS was a killer. Great striker with heavy hands, but not as elite on the ground. As good as he was for his time, he probably wouldn’t look good against guys like Ngannou or DC though.

#9 Fabricio Werdum

Best BJJ specialist with a decent stand up and good size for a HW.

#10 Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

Big Nog and Werdum are interchangeable on this list as they share many similarities in their strengths. Prime Big Nog could take a beating like no one else though.

Nah he is just a clueless new fan.

His name and his posting suggests more UFC hype troll to me, was probably banned several times before when he lost his temper.

Might believe some of what he's posting but is clearly aiming for a reaction.

2003-2005 Fedor is the greatest HW fighter we’ve ever seen . I keep saying it, but it’s true. No other HW fighter has ever had the blend of high level skills that Fedor had. He was fast, explosive, strong, and agile. He outsped the fastest HWs at the time and threw around some of the stronger HWs. Amazing to watch.

Now, Ngannou has the biggest power we’ve ever seen, so we’ll see if that trumps Fedor’s skills in the next couple years....

If we’re just talking athleticism in their primes, I think Stipe, JDS, Cain, and DC definitely have a strong case for #2 just like Ngannou
