Tony Gwynn passed away

I wouldn't say arguably. I would say he was the biggest and best SD sports star ever. No one will ever come close to him again. Played for the Aztecs then 20 years with the Pads and then back to the Aztecs as the coach. Hell they even named a stadium after him.

Yeah, I for sure think he's #1.

I THINK the Padres took his tickets from him last season because they showed up on Stubhub.

He was so consistent the crowd didn't really react to his at bats unless he DIDN'T get a hit.

One of the nicest guys ever. Not only a great baseball player but a great sportsman. One of the most entertaining things of all time was watching Tony legging out a double.

RIP T Time

Tony was on fire in '94 and he would have hit .400 if not for the strike.

Tony Gwynn was awesome.

"First, Maddux was convinced no hitter could tell the speed of a pitch with any meaningful accuracy. To demonstrate, he pointed at a road a quarter-mile away and said it was impossible to tell if a car was going 55, 65 or 75 mph unless there was another car nearby to offer a point of reference.

RIP

I just heard on Sportscenter that he had 297 3-hit games and ONE 3-strikeout game. That's insane.

RIP. Fantastic hitter. I value power hitting, so I don't automatically call him the best hitter of my lifetime, but he is certainly up there. Always heard he was a great guy. Happy to believe it. Don't chew or dip kids.

RIP

hopefully my years of dipping won't bite me in the ass like they did him

well over 2000 career games played and he only had one with 3-strikeouts. pretty fucking absurd and beastly

San Diego lost its most prized person. What a hitter. The best of his era, and many others. Got to see him play numerous times. Bummer.:icon_cry2

RIP Tony Gwynn. A sad day for baseball, great guy on and off the field.

In over 275 at bats against Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz, he only struck out three times.

was so happy about the Spurs today, then I heard this news, fuk grew up watching him hit everything in sight

RIP Tony G

Am shocked by this

RIP tony , true legend of the sport and a great person

Not only a great player, but he always seemed like a real good guy, and intelligent. Always thought guys like Gwynn, Ozzie Smith, and Ripken were real ambassadors of the game back in the day.
