ESPN just reported that Tony Gwynn has passed away at 54 years old.

He was one of the greats.. R.I.P.

Greatest hitter of his generation. R.I.P

One of my alltime favs.

RIP

I am devastated by this. I know he wasn't doing well but this one hurts. Now both of my childhood sports heroes are dead at young ages.... fuck....

Arguably the greatest SD sports star ever. I'm happy I got the chance to meet him a few times over the years.

RIP.

Absolutely devastated to wake up to this news. Had tears in my eyes when I was reading the article. I was lucky enough to meet him on multiple occasions, both as a kid and an adult, and he was always a class act and great human being. Gotta head over to his statue at Petco and leave something. Dark day in San Diego as both of our biggest stars are now gone. Wish I could thank him for all the memories and great moments. RIP Tony Gwynn.

I wouldn't say arguably. I would say he was the biggest and best SD sports star ever. No one will ever come close to him again. Played for the Aztecs then 20 years with the Pads and then back to the Aztecs as the coach. Hell they even named a stadium after him.

Taken too damn young. He was that perfect combination of talent and class. Damn, I'm just floored right now.

The greatest sports star San Diego ever had. I remember the 98 Series like it was yesterday. Fucking bummed.
