That's actually the point of a good manager, he does the dirty deeds for you. I realised that when a band of friends asked me to pressure a promoter about a show's fees, because none of them dared to step up for it. They needed someone who could be cunning and I got them a partial raise (I managed to "borrow" the concert's paperwork, so I knew exactly how much money the promoter had in his "cash box", which helps negotiations a lot).
