To start with, he's a damn good athlete and the HW champion of the world, but it's the division that universally is considered crap and at the end of the day, they put the strap on him after the widely considered GOAT of all this shit walked away.

His mic skills are horrible; he just seems so awkward whenever someone puts a mic in his face, like he’s really trying, but to no avail.

And beyond it all, he doesn’t seem to have any real fan base that you’d expect of the HW champion of the world. Getting booed stepping on the scale in Abu Dhabi? Anyone catch that shit before they cut away to like 5 guys cheering?

If you play ask a casual "who is Tom Aspinall?", I’d bet most wouldn’t know.

Am I way off, sherpimps?

He's getting paid well, made the GOAT run scared, and doesn't seem to care much about what anyone says. Just goes in a flattens dudes and goes about his day. I think he'll be fine.

Some guys obsess about what others think of them, to the point where they're an all time great fighter, famous, and still arguing with randos on Twitter that bait them into it. Some guys laugh and don't GAF. 🤷

He's an archetypal Lancashire man. So he's not great on the mic, but he doesn't care and he's certainly not awkward or embarrassed about it. So long as he's getting paid and can fight, he's happy.

You're wrong. His fan base is as big as number of Jones's haters, and that, believe me, is quite a lot. The thing is, these aren't real fans, but rather paper fans, but that's a different story. <BC1>

I wouldn't say so. He reminds me of Jake Paul. In that sense, I think he’s doing pretty well, given the circumstances of his career and how good he actually is versus how the fans rate him. Now he has had everything in his life handed to him. But honestly? That’s what your parents are supposed to do for you.

Name 5 active HW fighters with more fans/Insta followers than Aspinall.

"How good he is". Seems to have passed every test in the UFC so far with flying colors. Maybe that changes tomorrow or the next fight or the one after...but thus far I'd say he's awfully good. Wrecking half the top 10, all inside a round. Yeah, that's pretty damn good.

I know, "the fans" just don't have your incredible insight and eye for talent. 🙄

His fanbase is already as big as Stipe's. And he is 11 years younger. So plenty time to grow.
Maybe he isn't famous in your country.

At least he ain't fake on the mic, as so many others.

Only 2 bad things have happened to Tom in his UFC career, the knee injury vs. Blaydes, and Jones delaying him by being petty and unprofessional. He came out looking better after both setbacks. He's still going to be the HW GOAT within two years if he performs to his potential.

I'm European. But Mediterranean, so the loud side.

And what you Americans consider "dull" or "boring" doesn't cease to surprise me.
Tom is arguably, or at least he could consider himself, "the baddest man on Earth"... and behaves like a regular dude.
It's not over the top, obnoxious or trying too hard. That is likeable.

That said: your persona doesn't matter at all when you are a KO machine in the cage.

He did this to himself. He chose to sit out and wait even though Jones said he was RETIRING BEFORE and AFTER he fought Stipe.

He was trying to egg the most accomplished fighter to NOT retire so he can attempt to ride his coat tails out the door.
