Tom Cruise just got manlet-shamed

His M:I series alone elevates him above the 80's action icons this forum fetishizes, particularly the last 3 installments. And then he's got underrated sci-fi masterpieces in Minority Report, War of the Worlds and Edge of Tomorrow. From the tense urban noir of Collateral to the brilliant character study of Magnolia, Cruise has blessed us with some of the finest movies of the past 20 years.

Real talk. Until the Jack Reacher sequel he had like a 97 year span of no bad movies at all. Not necessarily all great movies, but nothing bad as in that "WTF, why are YOU in this movie" bad.I always loved the blank stare on people faces when they said they didnt like Tom Cruise and I asked them to name a bad Tom Cruise movie.

Seriously, you could pick a random Tom Cruise movie and Id probably be down to watch it. Say what you want about the man, until he was forced by terrorists to do the Jack Reacher sequel, his ability to notice and understand talent and what it takes to make an entertaining movie might be unparalleled at his level of stardom. You look at the MI series and who he's chosen to direct each installment and you're like "Yeah, that's a good call right there.". I still wonder what Joe Carnahans MI would have been like.

But, I do wish at the moment he'd ground it a little bit and do some more of the dramatic work that he hasnt done in some time.

I have read a lot of the novels, so I was absolutely appalled when I heard Tom Cruise has been cast as Reacher, and therefore had no interest in watching it.
Last week I finally saw the first movie. It was okay and Cruise was fine, like he always is when playing a hero.
However, he was nothing like the character of Reacher. The imposing stature, the aura and menace he exudes was totally lacking.
So I'm glad a more suitable actor will play him in the TV series.
That being said, had Cruise the superstar actually been willing to do the TV series (no chance though), I'm sure Lee Childs and everyone else involved would be overjoyed, and would say nothing negative about his height.

It doesn't really matter in the end

Jack Reacher is not a well-known character and the only reason people saw the movies was because of Tom Cruise

Whatever they do with this series now it wont be success as it was with Tom

This. I didn´t even heard about Jack Reacher, until Tom.

and would it have been any different if they cast the rock or some other larger action hero? you make it sound like it could've only succeeded with Tom.

Of course, the point is Jack Reacher, his producer, writer, etc.. are irrelevant comparing to Tom for 99.9% of the human population.
