I've been spending a bit of time studying toe hold attacks. If you guys/girls make use of the submission, what are your favorite ways to attack it? How do you combat the rolling out of toe holds and etc?

I have had little to no success with it. I'm trying to find a way to attack this with a high degree of control over my opponent (if something like that exists).

I have looked at Mackenzie Dern so far for attacking toe holds. I have been attacking this off the step over position into the knee bar and generally off scrambles.

Please help!

What rank are you and how are you controlling the leg from turning? The more control you have over the "trunk" or the leg the easier it is to snap the "branch"

when I see people trying a big mistake they often make is to attack the foot way out and away from themselves. When you lock it in, bring it towards your chest, right about on your solar plexus. 90% of the time getting it into you tightly before attacking is going to make it stronger and harder to escape.

I'm a fairly new brown belt just recently trying to expand my leg locking game. I try the step over a lot with the initial kneebar threat. I usually try to pin the foot to the mat as I lock the hands up. I try to attach my body to the leg and focus on rotating the foot and not trying to create momentum for them to roll. I'm trying to adopt the Danaher outside heel hook ideas by pinning the leg. Mediocre results so far.

Try using the finishing mechanism Seph shows here. Most of the power of a heel hook is driving your hips into their knee, the rest comes from twisting the toes to their butt like a toe hold.

Also make sure you start outside heel hooks from your shoulder like Seph shows when he's finishing. Outside heel hooks don't really work against guys with good defense unless your start on your shoulder.
