If cops pursue things get dangerous and people can die.

Too many time the cops don't pursue and the residents get fed up and take matters in their own hands.

Some say if the car reaches excessive speeds or drives reckless, back off.
But that only instills in the thieves , that if they reach those speeds they are in the clear .

Instinct tell me thieves should be hunted down and never purposely let go.

But I'm sure some liberals on here have some good arguments in defense of thieves and say. Don't pursue....

Don't chase and risk killing innocent bystanders, but use all those city traffic cameras to trace him to his base of operations and catch the fuck out of him there like in TV shows like 24.... or call in an unmarked car to stealthily chase.

Also, in the local news, a cop car darted in front of a woman who then honked her horn like most would do to alert others of dangerous driver, and she then was ticketed by the cop for "illegal use of horn" which she can appeal. Sounded more like abuse of authority by shitty driving cop who claimed to be an emergency vehicle, but he conveniently had enough time to ticket her during his emergency rush.

Several departments have started using drones for pursuit. Keeps the LEOs safe, still allows them to hunt the driver. Seems like a win win.

They should peruse at a distance. If they ride the assailant's tail there is a greater chance they will push the pace and facilitate an accident.

How about making prison so horrible it makes people think twice about breaking the law in the first place.

The same people telling us not to pursue criminals, are the same people making prisons soft as fuck.

They should incapacitate/kill the driver ASAP as it's proven to save the most lives.

Care to guess how many people add ANY discernable value to society out of every 1,000 that try and avoid inevitable charges/arrest? We're all gaining when pieces of trash die (cry all you want snowflakes, being trash isn't tied to a race).

Every situation needs to be case-by-case.

I don't want 'no matter what' no chasing.

I also do not want someone being chased through a school zone for shoplifting chips.

In 8 years it won't really matter.. the cops will be able just to turn your car off.

They’ve been able to do that with Chevy’s OnStar for at least 10 years now.

it depends on the threat. Is the fleeing person a violence criminal that will put others in harm if the escape?

Where are my damn car tazers to fry the vehicles electrical system?

Sounds interesting, guess technology can offset the need to pursuit.

Still something naturally instinct wise to hunt down the bad guy once they give chase

This isn’t accurate. The person most likely to be hurt or killed in a pursuit is the pursuing officer. It’s PDs discussing this as a means for officer safety. They’re trying to figure out a way to prosecute reckless drivers while not getting officers killed.

The drones are additionally helpful because it gives an overhead tactical picture when the driver/passengers flee the vehicle. It gives the officers more information, which will lead to better decision making, leading to best case outcomes. No one is served well from operating blind.
