it shouldn't be their call. they're in there fighting and are neither willing nor capable of making the right call here. the referee and the corner have the ability to stop the fight for a reason, and their decision trump's the will of the fighter. and rightfully so. if it was up to ortega, he'd likely lose his eye last night.

You cant really count on the ref to do something right in MMA. It's the corners call if anything.

It's probably healthier in a lot of cases to get knocked out than to take the sustained beating that Ortega took and when the fighter is still conscious to say he's fine it just makes it harder to call it off but you have to protect them from themselves.
