News Titanic Tours Submersible missing in atlantic ocean

That's what my wife and I were discussing last night. We sometimes have trouble connecting our phones to her car stereo, so why the hell would you trust bluetooth to pilot a submersible at the bottom of the sea?

If you're going to skimp on the control method, at least get a wired controller.

A wired controller would require a port to pass through the hull which becomes a problem to keep sealed at high pressure.

On the topic of whether the 5 occupants KNEW or not that there was a big problem, and my previous view that they were ASCENDING when the vessel imploded....this comment from James Cameron (who knows a lot of stuff about diving and has many contacts) appears to confirm that the crew knew they were in trouble a few hundred meters above the seafloor and had dropped weights and were going back UP when the ship failed :

James Cameron interview on Anderson Cooper here, timestamped :

Worth watching the entire 10mins interview.
James Cameron knows his stuff, he has been to the Marianas Trench (37,000ft).

He also said that carbon-fiber is terrific for INTERNAL massive pressures like a COPV tank that SpaceX use on all it's rockets, but it does NOT work well for massive external pressures due to the nature of the material (fibers embedded in an epoxy-resin base essentially, layered at different angles).
Here's that, timestamped :

So James is in on the conspiracy to cover for Hunter by waiting until now to speak about what he heard Monday to keep the story alive. Let’s go Brandon.

I’d like to hear more about how he knows the weights were released. From what I know the only communication was through texts. And if the crew up top knew of that why would they wait for so long to call it in?

Man thats really sucky if true...

Relative: He was terrified, but wanted to make his father happy
One of the passengers on the Titan submarine was hesitant to go, but went along to make his father happy. This is what Azmeh Dawood, older sister of Shahzada Dawood and aunt of Suleman Dawood, told NBC News.

Azmeh Dawood says Suleman was "terrified" and "not very keen" to go on the Titan. The fact that it was recently Father's Day in the US meant that he still decided to go with his father, who was fascinated by the Titanic.

On Thursday, she received the news that her relatives had died in the submarine as a result of an implosion.

- I can't understand it. It is an unreal situation, she says.

my info is that the sub imploded on ASCENT (when they should have been heading DOWN to Titanic) (see a previous post a coupla hours ago).
That tells me they knew there was a BIG problem and were desperately trying to ascend to reduce water pressure on the hull.

I think the details will all come out in time.

There is so much confusing information that has been put out since the sub was first reported missing. I've heard that they had a system that sent a ping at regular intervals and there was a system to send texts. I don't know if the tender ship had sonar to determine their position. The first I heard was that contact was lost as they were descending. I seem to remember mention of a text that indicated a problem but if it was a catastrophic decompression, not even the people on board would have know because it would happen faster than a human brain can notice.

After it was finally announced that all were dead, James Cameron and Robert Ballard were on this ABC News interview saying that they were certain Sunday that it had suffered a sudden decompression when it was announced that the sub was lost. They felt that they shouldn't say anything even though they were asked.

That’s the saddest part of it all. Heard it earlier.

The dad must have really thought money gave him plot armor in life. Why would you tempt fate and bring the kid with you. Jesus Christ.

Imagine the guilt had the kid refused and let his paw die alone. It’s for the best. Shoulda forced the entire family to go just to save them the grief.

Honestly when I saw the pic of the logitech controller...
Had it been me, and I got a tour of the vessel, and saw that controller.
It would make me pass. Hell in worst case I would let them keep the money.
There is no way in hell I would ever enter a sub that was controlled by a gaming controller..
Its insane...

I feel for this poor kid.

google titanic sub distress signal. When the story first broke it was all over

Simon Boxall from the University of Southhampton reported that but said it was second hand knowledge and he didn't know if it was an auto generated ping or sent by the crew. Of course all of the media outlets were looking for anything to report and latched onto that. Some may have embellished it. It might be determined in the future as the information is sorted out. Just like the Navy hearing a sound that could have been the implosion at the time the sub went missing but they had no way to be certain.

I woulda passed as soon as I met the guy. Looked like a tall version of that midget that had a tv show with his midget family. Almost lost the one in a punkin chunkin accident. That’d be enough for me.
