In October, the Nevada State Athletic Commission agreed to regulate slap fighting as a combat sport. In February, the Florida Athletic Commission was asked to approve the “sport” where two people slap each other in face, with defense not allowed, and it has held off on doing so, at least for now.

During the February 22 meeting of the Florida Athletic Commission (FAC), the members of that group considered the following letter, addressed to Florida State Boxing Commission executive director, Patrick Cunningham. The letter, dated November 10, 2022, was submitted to the FAC by Lex McMahon, who is the COO of Titan FC. McMahon mentions that Titan FC CEO Jeff Aronson is his partner for the promotion seeking approval, which goes by SLAP CLUB.

Bloody Elbow reached out to the FAC following its February meeting. The deputy director of communications for the FAC provided Bloody Elbow with the following statement:

“At this time, the Florida Athletic Commission (FAC) has not made a decision on slap fighting and there is no set date for a decision to be made. The FAC is planning to discuss the matter further with medical professionals at a future meeting.”

The Las Vegas commission is basically an entity under the UFC umbrella. They had the set and everything built BEFORE the commission even approved it.

The day it was, they already had promos for it ready, almost as if they had already filmed a bunch of content without even needing commission approval

Ugh -I don't get the popularity at all. But hey, to each their own. Enjoy what ya like!

This slapfighting shit is bad. They aren't allowed to defend themselves, so it isn't a sport in any way. It is a circus freak show, and it is bad for society, because the costs will be socialized and dumped on all of us, as some of these people will be injured in ways that require the system to compensate for their lack of appropriate compensation in a market which is clearly not free. If the inherent costs of this were factored in, it wouldn't be a viable enterprise. It is that way with many businesses now.

Let's not forget that the Fertitta's political savvy is what got them the UFC for cheap, in the first place. Lorenzo was head of the NSAC when they turned down event permits for Bob Meyrowitz, etc., but then, they magically approve the permits after Lorenzo buys the UFC after they couldn't stay afloat due to...being denied event permits in Vegas.

It's not popular. It was popular maybe like 4-5 years ago but the fandom has decreased considerably.

But Dana White, master business man who obviously built the UFC by himself with no help from his billionaire friends or the multitude of skilled industry people they brought to work on the early UFC, thought now is the time to start a slap league.

Being a feeder league in Slap fighting too?

SlapFIGHT Championship doesn't need to be sanctioned as not a combat sport? Then maybe just consider the Ammy not a sport? (The "SlapFIGHT Championship" league. Founded in 2017, the league is based in Branson, Missouri.)

Slap Fighting is like watching a car wreck... but I put it with arm wrestling a very niche sport.

Any commissioner who votes to approve slap fighting has got to be on the take. I watched Dana's first show for half an hour and it's an absolute travesty-not a "sport" in any sense of the word.

Is it reasonably popular or is it just so cheap that networks are willing to accept this kind of content?
