Tips to beat insomnia

I used to have huge problems with insomnia but a combo of night workouts, no screen viewing before bed and taking ZMA (zinc, magnesium, B6) helped dramatically.

I used to have really, really bad insomnia when I wrestled in high school. I was exhausted as fuck from practice, but would lay in bed for hours before going to sleep, and I'd wake up tired in the morning. It probably was due to nutritional imbalances from cutting weight and stress, because I never had the problem in the off-season.

Hope I get a lot of good information. Really want to permanently beat this

Lots of cardio workouts

Meditation before bed time.

When I'm stressed out and can't sleep, I do the followingly:

* Take a walk just before I'm going to bed
* When I'm in bed, I write down stuff that I finished/did well during the day, makes me feel more comfortable and satisfied.
* Write down everything I'm supposed to do the next day so that I don't wake up and my thoughts get fixated on it (I try to write down even the smallest thing like calling a buddy of mine)
* If I wake up in the middle of the night and that I keep tossing and turning but can't fall asleep again. I go up, perhaps drink a glass of milk or water, read something that isn't stressful for a couple of minutes. That normally helps me to fall asleep again since I don't get stressed out that I can't find a good position to sleep in.

My problem is that if I take a sleeping remedy I get restless legs.

Any counter to that?

Just realize you don't need to follow everyone elses pattern of sleep.

Ear plugs - the silicone kind, and nyquil. I had a pretty bad schedule for the last 4 yrs and in the beginning it was hell getting to sleep.

What screwed with my sleep was that for along time I'd read stuff on the internet before going to sleep. The light of the screen somehow keeps you awake (at least in my case).

Turning off the PC like an hour before going to bed and instead reading a book surely helped. Another option is adjusting the screen-brightness so it's darker and tires the eyes reading stuff.

Might not work for everyone but I find a cold shower to be very relaxing. My brain associates a warm shower with waking up and getting going for the day so that doesn't work for me. So get in a warm shower and slowly get it cooler and cooler until its flowing cold as it gets, stand in that at least 5 minutes but maybe more if u can take it. Dry off and immediately jump in bed, the warm glowing feeling of your body heating itself back up is simply euphoric and puts me out every time.

Go for the natural solution:

I recently started taking melatonin. Works for me pretty well.

Do you work? People who work have to get up at 7am where I'm at. I was an insomniac, but having to wake up at that time daily will eventually force you to reshape your schedule. Wake up at a set time daily, your body will adjust due to lack of sleep and all that.
