It's clear by this point all of these late blooming "illnesses" are weight cut related. If the UFC wants to rescue their main event scene they HAVE to institute penalties to discourage these late pullouts.

I personally think fines should be instituted, discouraging these giant weight cuts and discouraging fighters like Nunes from pulling themselves out.

Thoughts?

They are already getting "punished" by not getting paid.

They are already getting "punished" since they won't get paid.

That's clearly not the issue though as they're willing to not get paid. Stiffer penalties should be looked into imo

Or it could be that most people who pull out doesn't have the choice not to. It's one thing to pull out because you don't feel 100%, or because you can't make the weight cut, it's a totally different thing having to pull out due to a legitimate medical issue.

I would agree with fining fighters who pull out even though they are medically cleared to fight.

Should at least be a loss on your record if you pull out on fight day.

don't put roid busts, weight missers, etc into main events. they're already losing money by not fighting. strip belt holders if they won't fight while cleared.

I'm pretty sure there are consequences and penalties, it's just not official and public. It will be brought back everytime you negotiate anything or call for a specific match-up.

That's more what I'm talking about which is why i included the Nunes situation as an example.

I understand if the Dr. Won't clear you, even though that sucks all the same. But we've had Khabib and Nunes pull themselves out of main events on a days notice this year, I highly doubt that happens if there are fines instituted.

Sinusitis is not a legitimate reason to pull out at the last second.

Maybe. The fines would have to be big though, since they are already willing to walk away from a big payday by not fighting. Being fined an extra 5-10k probably wouldn't change their minds.

Yes. Let's try to force guys that can't fight to go out and fight anyways or face the consequences. Not getting paid isn't enough for someone who just spent a lot of money on their training camp. Beefcake would make it to that cage every time he was scheduled so professional fighters should too!

I said it's different if the Doc doesn't clear them.

If you pull yourself out of a high level fight on short notice for silly reasons, you deserve a fine. Explain to me what's wrong with that?
