Time for "Coach" Kavanagh to earn his pay

Hmm I used to agree, but round two round three khabib showed otherwise.

I just think he always blows his gas tank throwing hard punches so he always fades, and because he can only win before he fades, it looks like he gives up.
No that was already expected and in the game plan, Khabib was going to take him down and dominate the ground aspect and hopefully tire himself out and McGregor would try to conserve energy. But when he expects to walkover an opponent like Diaz 1 of Poirier 2 he’s like a deer caught in the headlights

Didn't he train Conor to become who he is today?f anything Conor owres him. Im pretty sure Conor is the one who doesnt want to train properly anymore because he's too cool now.

Hes Literally a BJJ coach lol that somehow lucked upon a good talent in Conor and has been riding that gravy train to fame/money.

You have great coaches out there that never get as lucky like Irish Edmond did

Kavanagh sounds like a reasonable man when he talks, but jeez the "our job is to get out of Conor's way" quote is one of the most embarrassing things a coach can say. There's no craft in the world in which you can reach a point where there are no more things left to learn, ESPECIALLY when said craft is an ever evolving sport where your opponents are constantly changing. Awful mentality.

I am in complete agreement. When I first heard Kav speak, I thought he sounded like a grounded, no BS coach ...but that first Nate fight said everything about his worth. There is no way that a top contender should lose against a guy coming in on 2 weeks notice due to a fucking cardio collapse of all things. Kavanagh very clearly "stayed out of Conor's way" instead of telling him what he needed to do to score that easy layup.

Yeah not even that. You think Kavanagh is making 500k-600k a fight?
How the fuck would I know, but that seems to be about the industry average. Are you saying that Conor is ripping off his gym, and coach?

Maybe he does. 500k or so per fight sounds like a lot to give to a yes man. Seems like that would be very generous of Conor.

John Kavanagh's attitude has always been WIN OR LEARN.

I guess he LEAAAARNED a shit ton in the last few years. lol

Learn how to cut 50 lbs and fight midgets, or cherry pick sub-par fighters.

He messed up the first Nate fight by failing to recognize Conor's tempo was too high and to issue instructions to Conor to pace himself and he inexplicably had no answer for Dustin's calf kicks throughout the fight but he's had months now though to formulate a game plan so it's time for him to prove his worth.

Conor's legacy is secure but Kavanagh desperately needs a victory here to salvage his reputation. A win and he might not be the Irish Edmond after all but another loss will have history record him as a mediocre coach who won the Powerball when Conor walked through his gym door.

he always does his job. im sure his lips are tattoo on conor ass.

Conor is his own coach. It’s a shame McGregor never brought in high level fighters to train with. Instead he opted to play touch butt in the park with the dork with the ponytail.
To be fair between the dork and Coach Kav, I think the dork knows more what he's talking about, lol.

In order to be a good combat sports coach you likely need a lot of mental energy, like how else would you move around these heavy bags of muscles (each thinks he is the next Mike Tyson or something). Kavanagh is a good peacemaker, a diplomat, but he hardly reminds me a guy who would just go and tell world champion what to do.

He's too busy listening to Shapiro freaking own the libs to spend time coaching dude .

We will see I guess soon

What did round 3 show? He was outstuck by a far inferior striker who just wanted to show the world he could hang with Conor. Literally was doing the “look over here” then smack you in the face move. He hung in there sure. And throw his uppercuts with every ounce of energy he had, which was none. But that was basic fighting, not surviving when he’s in trouble. The knee to the head and the 18 or so fouls are actually a better albeit pathetic example of him not just giving up in that fight

I really don't get the hate Kavanagh gets here. He is a legit BJJ black belt and, by all accounts, a good grappling coach. Nelson trained under him from an early age, as did McGregor. Edmond arguably got lucky when Rousey, one of the most well-decorated judokas of her generation, just happened to walk into his gym. But are we really to believe that Kavanagh, the owner of a small gym in Ireland, just happened to luck out with not one but two fighters? Fighters who were not already established athletes when he started training them, fighters who started with him in their late teens? As far as I can tell, Kavanagh is a decent coach – no better or worse than other coaches of similar gyms. He's no Matt Hume or Firas Zahabi, but there are just a handful of coaches at that higher level.
