I don't hate Fedor either but just showing how your point is retarded. Also Sylvia had fucking back surgery prior to that fight, and no one is ever saying he's an all-time great HW. Yes Pride's HW division was better at that snapshot in time.

Sylvia was a 32+ year old man in his 29th fight, post-UFC in fucking Affliction, coming off back surgery.

You want that standard? Then every Fedor loss counts in full if we're being fair. Definitely the Stirkeforce ones. And no one is here ever saying Tim Sylvia was some all-time great...I don't think TS is even intimating that clearly.

People that seen Tim in his prime understand he’d be a problem today. If you look back on the end of his career now he looks terrible. Pre back injuries Tim was a beast

Prob wouldn’t be champ today but I do think he’d be too 5.

Prime Tim starches Lewis. Ngannou, Stipe, DC would be bad match ups for him but he’d wreck just about everyone else
 
That's why I wasn't watching mma back in the day. The striking of so many guys was just terrible.

I have seen every Tim Sylvia fight, and I really don't think he was very good, even juiced to the gills. If he were active today he would be middling.

His third fight with Arlovski was one of the worst fights of all time.
 
Tim sorta lucked into his role as HW champ. He had some ok skills for HW but his combination of size, ok chin and good power made him among the best of the extremely weak HW division. We know that a lot of the Pride guys like Nog, Fedor, Crocop, Barnett and Schilt would have wiped the floor with him.

Scale Tim down to a normal size guy, say 6' and a flabby 220 and he'd be lucky to win a local toughman contest.
 
In Matt hughes' biography(a total psychopath, btw) he mentions training with Tim Sylvia and that they would train Sylvia until he cried, which was almost every practice. He may have cheated but it's an unforgiving sport and Tim worked hard and found success.
 
I'd give him a good chance vs Francsis, due to styles. But he sucked vs any good grappler.

Idk I think the HW talent pool is also pretty dogshit. And I think beating testing isn't that hard tbh, after the initial surge of USADA kind of fucked the organization and they clearly told them to take it down 9 notches on testing+penalties.

I'm with you in that I don't think Sylvia is anything special or that good really. But when Couture beat him it was like a David vs Goliath event I recall. And to your point, the testing around there was very lax.

But this is 6-15 at HW:

Rozenstruik, Abdurakhimov, Walt Harris, Sakai, Daukaus, Tybura, Ivanov, Aspinall, Pavlovich, Olenik.

I definitely think Sylvia if transported from his prime could hang with most of those names and beat some. I mean fuck, Olenik started before Sylvia lol
