2 Strong middleweight grapplers, who would have taken this fight and how? Would it have been close?
 
Kennedy easily at this point. I havn't been impressed with Chael since he beat Stann almost 4 years ago.

Kennedy wins, he's got more power standing and IMO is stronger than Sonnen. I think the wrestling would be about even with a slight edge to Sonnen but Kennedy has better stand up, power, and submission grappling. Kennedy is a bad match up for Sonnen.

Reason why chael and his buddy always avoid this question because they know it's a bad style match up for him

Hard fight for both, very even. Close decision either way.

Neither will blow each other out of the water.
 
Wrestling = even for both
Stand up = slight edge for Kennedy
Endurance/durability= Kennedy
Subs = even

I'd go with kennedy

Chael was never that good. He just talked himself into big fights.

He could certainly take him down, he'd be competitive on the feet, but he's better on the ground, certainly better submissions and sub D

Kennedy's a better fighter IMO. Chael's probably a slight advantage in the wrestling but I think Kennedy could equally get the takedowns if needed and hold his own if not beat CHael striking.

Good fight, but I'd favour Kennedy, I've always thought Chael was a bit overrated, principally from the great first fight he had vs Anderson, who was stylistically an excellent match up for Chael
 
Kennedy wins a close UD over prime, juiced up Chael.
Kennedy by sub over clean Chael.

Chael should have a slight wrestling advantage, but Tim has an advantage literally everywhere else. Better striker, more power in his strikes, better off his back, and does more damage on top.
 
What are so many people picking Chael?

Chaels 2 main assets are his wrestling and cardio.

He might be a better wrestler than Tim but not to the point where he owns him, and tim can go all day so cardio is irrelevant, that leaves striking which tim is a little better but the difference is power, he has a lot more than chael, as far as submissions, is this really a question, tim has shown much better submission skills and im pretty sure he can defend a triangle...

I see a lot of stand up in which tim gets the better, I also see a lot of even cagework and on the mat I see tim eventually getting a sub.

Tim by UD or sub, pretty clear cut for me.
 
Chael is probably the better overall wrestler but Kennedy's strength would give him some problems

Rockhold stays in camp just in case someone gets injured.
 
Chael via self-aware troll schtick. Gangster knows he's being a prick and does it with a wink. Same can't be said for Kennedy.
 
One of those match-ups where before the fight you think "This is close; could go either way" and then after the fight you go "Oh yeah... Chael's pretty bad-ass when he doesn't get subbed."

(Or... "Chael was cleaning his clock before he got subbed.")
