Till's 188 lb stipulation is a new precedent, better than % purse fines

This makes the fight much more fair to the fighter that made weight and accepts fighting at a disadvantage. No more cheating with skipping the last few pounds for an almost guarantee win. I hope fighters take note and don't accept just a purse cut.

Pretty sure he's getting 30% of Till's purse as well. The 188 is an add-on stipulation.

Not a precedent at all. Common in fact.

Rumble had to do the same thing against Vitor, missed 185lbs and couldn't be over 205lbs on the day of the fight.
There are other examples but this is the only I can think of off top.
Nothing new

"Johnson "Rumbled" onto the scale today (Jan. 13, 2012) at the UFC 142 weigh ins, coming in at a whopping 197-pounds, a full 11 pounds over the contractual limit of 186. As of now, his co-main event against Vitor Belfort is still on, and "The Phenom" will receive 20-percent of Johnson's fight purse.

Unfortunately Johnson, who will not be allowed to weigh any more than 205-pounds on fight night, has a history of failing to make weight, but his problems at welterweight were expected to be alleviated in the higher weight class, which at first glance appeared to be much better suited to his large frame."

un"till" he makes weight again

Good point. There should be an upper limit for missing weight. Not only do you give 30% purse. Also weight limit 1 day after.

Flw- 140lbs
Bw-150lbs
Fw-162lb
Lw-175lbs
Ww-190lbs
Mw-206lbs
Lhw-227lbs

Welcome to the Dern Till Era Bros

Hopefully this happens in all missed weigh ins from now on. I wonder what Dern's weight was on fight night?

it is an excellent stipulation that protects against a fighter just giving up during a weight cut and ballooning up as they normally would.

it also gives Thompson *huge* leverage if Till fails to make that weight tomorrow. He could demand the moon and Till will essentially have no choice but to agree...

Is it true that Till has already expressed doubts that he will stay within the targeted weight?

exactly, thats alot more incentive to make weight/ be in a weightclass you belong to.

Yes :( He's offered his full purse already- he'd rather not cut weight again and get the W, make zero dollars, because like he said money is just money, money will come later. W's are important in game of cheating (dern till era)
