It seems that ever since he was caught banging some strange, his performance on the Golf course plummeted, his stock dropped dramatically, and he's never recovered.

Not too long ago, this guy was one of the best athletes to ever live, and there were no signs of him slowing down. A highly publicized scandal, and it was all over.

Only other guy who comes close that I can think of, is Lance Armstrong. His downfall seemed to come near the end of his career though. Tiger was cut down in his prime.

What say you, Sherdog?

I'd put Armstrong close, but I think Tiger's legacy is still pretty intact. If you watched golf when he was on top he left an impression, I've rarely seen someone so casually dominant. I think his image with women women took a hit, he was held up as some squeaky clean richboy, but I don't think most men care. He also had a lot of injuries, and those are what really put him down in the end I think. I think if you're talking both barrels lifefuck, no one really touches OJ. Dude LITERALLY got away with murder, then went back for his shit, while tearing the country apart. Tiger losing some endorsements and getting chased with a golf club doesn't really have that edge.

Yeah, I probably should've clarified that I meant "while in the prime of their career". There have certainly been worse downfalls, but I can't think of a guy who fell so hard, so fast, with no reason other than pressure brought on by his public perception.

It'd be like Micheal Jordan becoming a utility player after his first few years of dominance.

Sure, but Tiger won PGA Player of the Year 11 times between 1997 and 2013. At very worst, he was one of the most dominant sportsmen on the planet for a decade, with probably one of the best brands in sports. Monetarily, sure he took it pretty hard, but he's still a gazillionaire. That it happened to happen as his injuries were catching up to him is an unfortunate coincidence, but that's my opinion.

Oh', he's definitely still a legend and one of the best golfers ever, if not the best. I just find his drop in performance to be incredible, given how dominant he was, and how sudden it came. It seemed to happen overnight, and it can almost be pinpointed to when his public reputation was tarnished. Or at least it seems that way.

Maybe it's just me.

Tiger ruined his body and ended his career when he started juicing and lifting weights like a lunatic. That was when he went on a fuck tirade, hitting every and any female within reach at each and every tournament stopover.

When he was at Stanford, his nickname was "Urkel". He later remarked that he hated that moniker and would do anything to erase its appropriateness. Well, he did. But then he hurt himself, fucked his way out of a nice marriage and ended his career with one too many 'microsurgeries'.

He'll not only never win another major, he'll never compete in or ever even one another single tournament.
He's done. Shame really.

Lance's downfall was similar in that it involved a huge ego, juicing and fucking every female possible but his skill never diminished. Even after a three year hiatus, a lifetime in cycling, he came back and finished 3rd on the podium at le tour without, I believe, doping or blood bags.

Tiger's downfall at golf (not his branding) is clearly due to his health. He was starting to get back into his somewhat vintage Tiger type groove on the course just three years ago when he won several PGA Tournaments(obviously no majors) and reclaimed his spot as World #1.

It's awful watching his body deteriorate by constantly being plagued with the worst possible injuries you could have for the sport, which in turn means he can't consistently practice/perform at the rate he has his entire life when he feels physically able... which then makes him play like an abysmal can when he's somehow able to play in a tournament the last couple years.

I'm still holding out hope that Tiger will be able to make a minimal resurgence and actually be competitive in some tournaments. TW needs to go the Tom Brady route of training his body by practically eliminating weights all together in favor of resistance bands exercises since it's a lot more beneficial and less harmful to athletes around 40.

you're a true devotee to give him a free pass like this and sugar coat the reality of the situation.
the dude is completely irresponsible in his training and behavior, negligent in rehab and
guilty of death by EGO.
he'll never be competitive again.

Tiger's mechanics are the reason for such physical breakdowns.

I never liked him as a professional or person, but there's no denying his impact on the game. It's a shame, and while I don't think he'll be back to 100% of his former self, he'll be back.

aaron hernandez anyone?

Comparing Aaron Hernandez to Tiger Woods or Lance Armstrong, is like comparing Bryant "Big Country" Reeves to Micheal Jordan or Mohammad Ali.

Big downfall, yes, but few knew who he was before he killed someone.

oh well if the requirement is that they have to be as big in their sport as tiger woods or lance armstrong, that leaves a pretty small pool to choose from considering those 2 are the top 5 or so ever in their respective sports

Thread title, yo. "Biggest Downfall EVER".

You gotta fall from a mountain top to be included, not an anthill.

What, is he your cousin or something? What's with the hostility?

Aaron Hernandez is not in the conversation of biggest downfalls ever. He's not even Sean Kemp level.

you came with it first. hernandez might not have made it as high as the oothers, but he fell a lot, lot further. therefore, he is certainly in the discussion.

why ask a question if you wont accept opinions? why didnt you just name the thread "tiger woods had the biggest fall from grace ever."
