I've been using the good old fashioned Tiger Balm recently to help with muscle pain from DOMS and from sitting/sleeping wrong.

It really works wonders. Of course this is anecdotal but I really feel like it shortens DOMS as well as works as a local anesthetic. It is also excellent if you have tension headaches or neck problems.

Fun fact is that Tiger Balm, though very popular in Thailand and with Muay Thai fighters, is actually from Singapore.

Tiger Balm > Ibuprofen for any kind of muscle pain.

i've slathered massive gobs of the stuff all over my quads after squatting, and i feel like it made pretty much no difference whatsoever.

You sure you got the legit stuff? In any case, maybe it works differently. For me it helps more as to eliminate the pain from doms while training and not so much to recuperate faster (though it helps for me with that too). I also find it excellent if you have some recurring muscle/back issue.

You put the balm on? Who told you to put the balm on? I didn't tell you to put the balm on. Why'd you put the balm on?

Hahaha - always good to see a Seinfeld reference.

Just putting on Tiger Balm I never really felt anything, but if you mix it with compression that's a different story. Still, I don't know if it's actually doing anything productive...

After you've applied it, try to avoid touching your balls. Seriously.

don't touch the eyes either.
Tiger Balm and other salves don't work on doms, except for a placebo affect. They do not get through the skin and into your muscular system. If they did, you would probably get very sick.

You dont think increased blood flow coupled with capillary dilation can have some effect on muscle soreness?

It rubs the Balm on its skin or else it gets the hose again.

Just don't be the crazy old guy who smells of A535, and leaves crap all over the gym.

I am from Asia and i swear by this. I don't think its placebo effects, as it works for a lot of people, even sceptical folks.
not just tiger balm, but many asian medicated oils do help in massaging sore muscles. its the herbs.
of course if you prefer scientific proven balm / medicated oils, stick to Japanese brands, such as Yoko yoko or Salon Pas (not sure the spelling, i prefer using tiger balm)

i always get my tiger balm here, i think they do ship to overseas
tiger balm yoko yoko medicated oils

I rub it on my butthole and scream fire
