Throwback - Nunes vs Shevchenko | Full fight | Who really won?

These 2 even tho they have lost recently, they are arguably the best ever in WMMA history and there is always an argument so the official result of this fight means a lot when it comes to that argument

But who you really think that won? I still see Shevchenko as the winner until this day

The fight itself was very uneventful in my opinion. Both fighters inflicted very minimal damage. The only round that was clear to me was round 5 for Nunes. I scored it 49-46 for Nunes, but this is a case where I'm probably just flat out wrong -- most media scores had it for Shev, and even folks I talk to about the fight that had it for Nunes didn't have it 49-46. I feel I valued the agression and cage generalship more than most, but I feel that defensively both fighters were too effective to put much of a premium into the effectiveness of the striking.

The reality is that if Nunes was anywhere near as good as Shevchenko, she should absolutely murder her with that huge size advantage. She's 2 weight classes bigger than Valentina. Shevchenko didn't cut any weight at all to fight at 135 and cuts only a few pounds to make 125. There're freaking strawweights that walk around heavier than her. The fact that it went to a split decision tells you Valentina is much more skilled than Amanda.

You probably believe Diaz was tree tuymes biggah than Cocainor.

Nunes said she was walking around 175lbs when she was going to fight Cyborg

Keep moving those goalposts, in another couple posts you'll claim she was 6'4", 280lbs of solid NFL linebacker.

who cares Alexa Grasso destroys them both

You kept denying Taila beat Shevchenko. You called Alexa beating her, a fluke.

Of course you think Shevchenko won. But, she lost.

It kills you to know Amanda has 2 belts and Shevchenko has ZERO. And you KNOW Shevchenko has been ducking Amanda since last July.

Even though at the same presser Dana, and Amanda both wanted that fight. But Dana knew Shevchenko would duck Amanda.

Yeah, size only matters when it’s Amanda/Shevchenko, right? But not when it’s Shevchenko/ Joanna/ Andrade, right? And her whole pathetic fanbase wanted Weili too.

BTW..

In case you missed it. Amanda went up to 145 and smoked Cyborg out in :51.

And Shevchenko knows that Amanda would finish her too. Yet you’re so proud Pena beat Amanda while she was clearly not completely recovered from Covid (Somehow you keep not mentioning that).

Watch the GOAT at work.

This post gave me aids
Her second belt is a clear marketing gimmick
She hasn't defended in years
There isn't even rankings in it. And I challenge you to name even 10 fighters without looking anything up. Are there even 10 fighters? She's the queen of nothing essentially, all just to call her a double champion so she gets more attention. It's cheap shameless promotion tactics by the UFC.
On top of it, this board was extremely split on her fight with shev. Then she got fucked up by pena lol. Wmma is just that shit. I strongly believe it should be its own promotion. I'm sick to death of being forced to watch shitty soccer moms fight while the veteran commentary team pretends it's high level, while we all know they're thinking some highschool wrestlers could probably fuck half of them up
3-5 truly good wmma fighters tops per division. That's being generous

Val won the second fight.
145 women's division barely exists. Clear marketing gimmick as Jonesisnatural just said above me. If the UFC really wanted to challenge Nunes there, they'd have signed Kayla Harrison recently when they had the opportunity.

They're the two best UFC WMMA fighters for sure. Unfortunately mother time caught up to Val as she's falling off. It's likely doing the same with Nunes given her loss to Pena.
They aren't the same size, so Nunes has a natural advantage against Val. I bet when they fought at 135 they were minimum 15lbs apart in the ring. 125 is very clearly Shev's natural weight class.

Anyways, when it comes to their second fight - Val won. If you think Nunes won you're just biased or not very good at scoring fights. Weasel has a good breakdown where he scores it 49-46 or 48-47 Shev. I've watched the fight 2 or 3 times and seemed pretty clear to me every time that Val won.

It's not really up for debate. It's a well-known fact that Shevchenko barely cuts any weight at all, even at 125. It's also a well-known fact that Nunes has to cut weight to make 145. If Shevchenko cut what Nunes does when she makes 135, she'd be fighting at 115. That's literally two weight classes apart.

You made that up mate

Here's Ariel asking how much weight Valentina has left to cut the day before the second Nunes fight, and she says none, she's already there. She was 133.5 for that fight.

Here's her saying (before the same fight) that the best part of her camps is that she doesn't need to cut any weight:

She's also weighed in as low as 123.5 for her flyweight fights, and routinely is at 124.5 or 124. I have trouble believing someone would purposely and repeatedly cut more weight than they need to.

Amanda Nunes, on the other hand, has been reported as walking around at 170. In the cage against Cyborg, she weighed 156.

So no, I didn't make that up at all. Nunes is literally two weight classes above Shevchenko.

Ha, I said that so you'd provide proof. Thanks man, I'm kinda obsessed with how much fighters cut and how much they weigh fight-night in the cage.

Excellent post, sir.

was always surprised that shevchenko couldn't get over the hump there. she's the more skilled fighter, i always looked at her like a gsp type, who had the ability to figure out any opponent.
