Just got an Oculus Quest 2, first game i bought was Thrill of the Fight

Obviously it's not going to be a truly accurate boxing simulation, but it has a lot going for it

For those here who have tried it, just after some tips on real world boxing skills you can adapt for the game

Initial thoughts for me are the game doesn't detect infighting at all. If you punch too fast, also doesn't register.

circular punches (hooks and uppercuts) don't register anywhere near as well as straight punches

defensively, having your hands up seems to be most important thing. I did a heap of head movement, have no idea if that helped defensively but i fear not

Great game done by one developer. Imagine if he had a team and a group of real boxers to work extensively with, Thrill of the Fight 2 and 3 could be amazing

I've not tried using it to develop boxing skills at all, but I find that playing on the higher difficulties and doing a lot of ducking and stepping to defend is a pretty good work out.
and yeah, hit detection is still wonky, but it's so much better now than when it came out. Guy's pretty good about pushing updates to it. I bought it the week it came out and it's a completely different game now.

Knockout league is good fun too, it's a bit more ready 2 rumble or punch out than boxing sim, but well worth checking out if it's on the quest store.
There's also the fastest fist, which is more focused on hitting focus mitts, got bruce lee in it and all. Seems to be abandoned though, not gotten an update in years.

I'v been playing this for maybe two months. I heard sequel is on the way and that it'll have online vs. mode, so I kind of started to train for real, watching boxing training videos on YouTube and doing drills. Never done any martial arts or any really other sports either, so it's been fun! I'm currently slowly adding movement, improving my southpole stance and stuff like that. The VR helmet throws off my coordination a bit, so it takes a while to implement new stuff even after I've learned it without the helmet.

Really curious what pvp opponents will be like! It kind of creeps me out, that I might lose to some 12-year olds just because I'm 47 and 199cm, so there's no way I'll ever be very fast and speed equals punching power in this game. Hoping to figure out stuff to compensate.

Looks cool, wanted to try them but for the price I don't think they have enough games. Will they work with ps5 in the future?

That was one of the first VR games I bought for my rift two years ago. I gassed out after the first round, was winning handily. I could barely lift my arms by the end of round 2, got KO'd, it was terrifying, would highly recommend.

What a great workout! There's a really cool boxing workout game called BoxVR. You could easily import custom songs for the rift, not sure about quest/PSVR, but it's insane

Still happens to me every now and then in latter rounds. :D It's a nice feeling when you get your gas tank under control and learn how to pace yourself. If it takes a flurry of more than 5 punches to score a knockdown my aim is usually off anyways and I'm just flailing.

I love this game. It's easy to play through just spamming offence, but there's a lot to learn with different modifiers and objectives. Lately I've been practising countering and pacing a lot. This week it's been 4 X 5 minutes fights against opponents with 200% agression rate and I'm only allowed to finish the opponent in last round. Today I tried the championship fight with regular settings and won with over 80% defence rate.

It's a really fun game. One odd issue I do have is that I can land punch after punch after punch and the sparring partner just refuses to go down! (In 'normal' mode, that is. In easy mode he goes down quickly.) I have a feeling there is a trick to it that I'm missing...but either way, it's a great workout and enjoyable. I can't tell how much head movement actually registers, or even if you can parry with one glove instead of just a full guard, but I do both anyway.

I been loving this game! i look goofy and stiff as hell the 1st rnd.

I've seen you posting on Reddit. Nice job winning the champ on outclassed! I started training again couple months ago to beat the game on outclassed but never got through Moneymaker. I'm currently mostly fighting on custom settings with everything else on outclassed except durability. I just don't have enough power for the extra durability and fighting just to defend with no chance to score knockdowns is a bit boring.
