Thoughts on Whittaker traning with an Elite Boxing Coach?

Did any of you guys watch the fight? Other than the knock down, Whittaker was landing a lot of his strikes on Izzy. Whittakers jab was very effective and even DC mentioned it. On the rewatch I was surprised by how often Whittaker was touching Izzy with the strikes. I didn't remember Whittaker landing this many times when watching it live the first time. Think Whittaker just needs a more patient approach with some wrestling (take down attempts) mixed in.
Mostly misses. Izzy is great at being able to just slip at the last cm. You okay the patient game with Izzy with lesser skills he outpoints him. He plays the aggressive game he gets caught. If Robs game isn’t trying to mix boxing with wrestling he loses. He likely loses regardless, he isn’t good enough to beat Izzy. The real question is, is Rob happy being number 2. 170lbs might be where he goes.

No it wasn't mostly misses. Sure they may not have landed 100% but they weren't 0% either. Whittaker definitely has a great shot at beating Izzy with the right game plan.

More MMA fighters should IMO.

GSP went undefeated after bringing in Freddie.

Cub was on the best run of his career and in a title eliminator with Joel Diaz coaching him from 2012-2017. Went 10-3, got grapplefucked by Frankie and lost to Max and Ortega (was boxing up Brian and up on cards before he didnt protect his neck. He beat Stephens, Dustin, Charles, Pearson, Roop, Choi, Hacran, Kawajiri and Siver mostly with boxing

Boxing is the great equalizer. Most fighters have pretty good BJJ these days, pretty good wrestling, pretty good Thai kickboxing. VERY few fighters have good boxing. There is a difference between a good puncher and a good boxer.

What are your thoughts on Whittaker putting an emphasis on Boxing for his rematch?

Whittaker hired a famous Boxing Coach, named Johnny Lewis as shown on the Countdown. This guy has made several world Boxing champs and clearly can help Whittaker alot,

I never expected Whittaker to approach this fight like a boxer. But it might work, A good boxer can give a good muay thai fighter some trouble.

Whittaker with better boxing and wrestling mixed in, can win back the belt.
From what it shown, I am guessing the coach is training Rob to throw straight punches in succession, which can work because how Izzy relies in leaning back so much. You can't teach more than that in a such a short period of time.
