Thoughts on Whittaker traning with an Elite Boxing Coach?

His punches had an effect on Israel when they fought. You can see when he stunned him right before he was k'od. I'm guessing he's going to try and and exchange in the pocket again and try to be defensively sound this time around and with more patience. I think he wants the ko.

I wish Rob would go to a mega camp like AKA or ATT.

I think it's great for helping him close the distance, BUT his lead leg is gonna get chewed up. We didn't get to see this in the first fight since Rob was just rushing in, giving Izzy to opportunity to counter with hooks.
We've seen in the Cannonier fight that Rob is vulnerable to leg kicks. A boxing stance/approach will just encourage it more and Robs normal stance is already vulnerable for it.
Robert did stop Cannonier from using those heavy leg kicks with a deterrent in his straight punch, issue being Izzy is not Cannonier and is a lot more better at setting up his leg kicks.

I think he needs to establish a wrestling threat to help open up his striking. Kinda like how he did in the Darren Till fight.

He trained with Timmy before the Kelvin fight and his hands and head movement was pristine. Personally I feel since their last fight Rob has evolved far more out of the two and that will be the deciding factor.

Whittaker just has to make sure he doesn't foolishly and recklessly lunge forward with his chin up in the air like in the first fight against Titysanya.

Will only help him. Theres an argument for Boxing being the most important aspect in mma striking over muay thai tbh.

Well, for me, there is two approaches to fight Izzy: low kicking him, trying to cut his movement or boxing mixed with wrestling. I think our boy rob is doing the right game, but, for sure, there is always the change of not working, lol.

Not too happy. I still think Rob's wrestling is the key to winning this one. Boxing against an elite kickboxer with better reach will get him nowhere.

Boxing and wrestling go together like a hand in glove. For rob to use his wrestling more, it's likely that he'll need to be able to get into boxing range more often. A good boxing trainer won't hurt rob, as long as he's keeping everything in perspective.

ok good point, I just hope he doesn't go full boxer like some people do

It will be good. He needs a good jab it really offsets Israel’s offense and pressure him and make Israel grapple if you get close enough. Way
Easier said than done. But nobody else can do this at mw at the moment.

You can’t hang on the outside and go tit for tat. ( no pun intended).

All I can say is that I'm glad Bobby Knux didn't get an immediate rematch and had a chance to work on his game.
He HAD to completely rework his standup to give him a chance at not getting countered to death.
Still hard to compensate for the huge speed disadvantage, but he is at least giving himself a chance.

It’s all about reacting imo, Jan didn’t bite and it made Izzy have to do a lot more. The boxing can’t hurt Bobby’s chances but I think he should try and get it to the ground when the exchanges start

Hope it works for him. To me, his mismatch is on the ground. Hopefully he has better defense and can get the fight to the ground.

This, a boxing approach has me worried for my boy Izzy. His composure will only open up his TD game and can keep Izzy guessing. People counting Rob out haven't been paying attention.
I agree, plus other factors like the training and coaching issues could factor in as well. Izzy won't have his main coach in his corner. Let's see if it makes a difference in between rounds and with the ability to make adjustments in real time during the fights.

I grappled with Karlein and actually won our exchange too*.

Can I take Izzy down now and beat him?

* we grappled: shook hands and I am certain I got the last squeeze in. He tapped out (tapped me on the shoulder) and walked away

If he’s been heavily focusing on body shots, then yeah it will be a good thing. Izzy’s body is open so often but fighters get emotional and head hunt him.

Batter those ribs early. Throw in some level changes. He needs to get Adesanya over thinking things, to create openings for headshots.

Good.

in general mma fighters have shit boxing.
Having a solid respectable jab could do wonders for many fighters.
